Florida has a fairly interesting history when it comes to organized crime. Trafficante controlled Tampa for years, and Miami had their fair share of problems with the mob. I was wondering if the mafia ever managed to get a stronghold over Jacksonville during the early part of the century?
Recently I saw a program on WJCT about the Casa Marina (Jax Beach) through the years and apparently the hotel was a regular vacation spot for Al Capone. Not sure if he had a local impact on crime though.
Organized crime here would have too much competition from local government. ;)
