Tuesday is not normally an inordinately busy day for lunch in downtown. But Chamblin's is slammed. Every table taken, and a line that stretches out the door.
The outside patio is full of road scholar types smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee, and the inside is plagues with a flock of the city Attorneys.
Its nice to see. The food is fairly decent, but with all the restaurants closing downtown, there isnt much else in the way of competition.
List of restaurant closures over the past year in the Hemming Park area.
Boomtown
Paradise Cafe
The Chinese Buffet
Sunrise Bakery
LaCena no longer opens for lunch
Shelby's
Pizza Italian
Starbucks at 11 east
a number of the landing lunch places
please...lunch has never been the problem for these places...its been the lack of business after 2pm.
and the Landing should not be included on the list...it has had just as many restaurants open as they have had close...if not more...
there are about 8 food court placs...plus
Hooters
Benny's
Vito's
American Cafe
Karlene's
plus the An Apple a Day store.
I've never run a downtown eatery....of course, I've never had to close one either.
Btw...what exactly is a road scholar?
All I was trying to say is that most of the places downtown do well for lunch (and some for breakfast)....but because they get very little business after 2pm, many have been forced to close.
you know I read an article in the Daily Record last week, that said every available booth in the food court was full once that hot dog place opens.
not quite sure why you need to run an eatery to be able to voice your opinion.
In my opinion most of the now closed restaurants would of closed regardless of their locations and for reasons other than a bad economy.
