Haven't seen it, but I've seen several reviews and they were all positive.  It seems the only people who might not like it are die hard trekkies.

I am not worry about any "die hard Trekkie". This is not their generation. But I think regular Star trek fan should appreciate the Easter eggs.
For someone who just want fun, I love the action and the special effects and of course the optimistic outlook. I mean, I think terminator is great but it is so depressing.

I hear you.  My favorite sci-fi flick is Bladerunner but it makes the future look pretty crappy.

Two thumbs-up on the new Trek movie.  Very well done.  Lots of action, lots of plot advancement, lots of nods to the original incarnation from which it stems.

Definitely pays homage to the original in all the right ways, without going overboard - character idiosyncracies, quotes, mannerisms.

Brilliant piece of cinema.

That's it, i'm going to see it after work tonight.

I was trying to wait until it comes out on DVD but, i'm a "soft-core" trekie as well.

more of a fan of TNG though.  Picard pOwNeDz Kirk, LET'S ARGUE!

"Picard has it all over Kirk. He's poised and measured and doesn't wear a cheap rug. Rather, he accepts even baldness with a quiet cool that says, "I am in command. You are safe with me. I will cradle you in my arms through any crisis in any galaxy"

I saw it last week and thought it was pretty good. I then saw this on the Onion and it sums it up pretty good.

I like Kirk, particularly the new one, he is dumb, blond, lucky and stripes fast. Isn't that our definition of "hottie"?  Picard, as well as all other captains, is just too smart for the underlings to shine and too old to strip.
But I do agree, Steward, as well as all other stars played captain, is better actor than the price line guy.

ewwww.  ^

:)

I'm more of a die-hard trekie than I thought apparently, because I had trouble adapting to the new actors in the old roles along with some of the glitz-bam-pow shininess of the makeover, but after I managed to suspend my disbelief I gotta say, it was a pretty good movie. For some reason the sword fight bothered me, seemed a bit too star-warzy/generic Hollywood action scene as were a lot of the fight scenes. (I call it dance-fighting, overly choreographed fight scenes make me cringe)

Other than that, after watching it the 2nd time I found myself getting pretty reeled into it. There's a lot less of a philosophical angle on this go around of star trek, which is one thing I always liked about the older series, but yeah. In order to appeal to a broader audience there's certain things that had to be changed about the series to make it more...how do you say..palatable?

oui!

Mine too. I love a good dystopian sci-fi movie.

Sulu is suppose to be a big fencing fan. in the original series, he had some very good topless moves.

^ "The Naked Time" in which, under the influence of some sort of alcohol-drunkenness-inducing something-or-other, he galavants down a corridor with a foil in hand, calling out for Richelieu to come do battle.

**trekkie alert**

So yea - that whole sword play-on-the-drill scene was another homage to the original.

Finally saw the movie today.  Great flick... but... the whole Uhuru/Spock thing was wrong... and not sure how this "prequel" works with the original pilot "The Menagerie".  I did enjoy it tho...

Kirk over Picard easily!!!

It's a reboot folks, the entire ST timeline over the last 40 years of TV and movies doesn't happen.  It's a whole new universe (or at least the Alpha Quadrant) - remember what happened in the movie to Vulcan.

Spock and Uhura definitely had something in the TOS. Remember She once sang to a SMILING Spock

"
Oh, on the Starship Enterprise
There's someone who's in Satan's guise
Whose devil ears and devil eyes
Could rip your heart from you!
At first his look could hypnotize
And then his touch would barbarize
His alien love could victimize
And rip your heart from you!

Yah - Uhura/Spock in the original Series was definitely hinted at early on, but later dropped.  An alien and an African-American?  In the '60s?  C'mon now.

And yes, it's a reboot-slash-alternate reality (as also specifically and overtly mentioned within the dialogue), so anything goes from this point on.

Negative. It's an alternate timeline. The destruction of the USS Kelvin changes history, leading to the timeline of the current movie. The previous (or "prime" timeline as it's being called) remains intact.

P.S. - The movie was terrible.
