I had to drop my car off at Mike's for some repairs this morning and went by at lunch to pick it up. Ate lunch at his new place Wafaa (his wife) and Mike's. The philly cheesesteak was pretty good! he told me business has been brisk and that he appreciates everyone that stops by. Give it a try!
The philly cheesesteak and the philly steak are both HUGE and very good. i think the big difference between the two is that the philly steak has peppers...
I've eaten there 4 times......it's all pretty good, i have not been disappointed by anything yet.
I'm going to try out the philly cheesesteak in about two hours.
Their grilled chicken gyro is the best I've had in a long time, and their feta is always fresh and delicious.
I can't pass up a good philly. Looks like I'll have to go for a 90 min bike ride so i can try it out tonight.
Where is this place anyway?
It is on the corner SW corner of 6th and Main St in Springfield. They are open 10am-9pm Mon-Sat
Does anyone know if they plan to extend their hours on the weekend? I believe that was the original intent.
I ate there last week and it was good. Maybe they should have an oil change + sandwich promotion.
Here is an image of Wafaa and Mikes.

Thanks all! Definitely going to look into this place.
Nothing says Middle Eastern cuisine like a cheesesteak! But i'm not big on sticking to a format as long as the food's good.
Chicken and oil change aye? Haha you mean like in the movie "don't be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood"? The mechanic was also the cook, good stuff!
I had a pretty good Shwarma last night... the back deck will be nice when completed.
Did the philly but forgot to ask them to make it a philly philly, without all the veggies. Still not bad.
Wafaa asked me why we weren't trying the arabic food though, I said because of everyone on MJ made me hungry for the cheesesteak. I told her i'll be back and try out the other items on the menu. It looks like a good casual place to get a quick bite, esp if you're going to spend some time at shanty nearby afterwards.
Note to W&M's; Make sure that you actually HAVE shish kabob's, if you got "shish kabob" painted on the window outside of the restaurant. They have pretty good sandwiches though.
Wife and I orderd the Gyro Platters (One Chicken and One Lamb) with a side of hummus and tabouli...The portions were huge. The meat was great...the hummus was good but was doused a A LOT of olive oil. The tabouli needed a kick of salt or maybe a hint of lemon juice to add some flavor. All in all though, it was good, the service was great and it is definitely a welcomed addition to the neighborhood.
anybody have the hours of operation?

Probably later on Fri/Sat.
Where was Mike? probably next door working on the cars.
Has the back patio opened yet? If not, is there anywhere in Springfield where you can bring your dog and eat?
3 Layers has outdoor seating where dog's are welcome (I think there are water bowls, too), and the Uptown Market & Deli and City Kids Ice Cream that are coming to 3rd & Main in Aug will also have outdoor patio seating.
Stephen, great photo Wafaa and chef (catch his name?)
The outdoor patio seating area at 3rd & Main is a pretty nice feature. It also sets up perfectly for SPAR to take advantage of the street level spaces adjacent to it. The addition of that building's street level spaces to fill in with uses that complement 3rd & Main's retail spots, would be a great start to retail clustering along that stretch of Main Street.
There are a few in yesterday's front page article:

Take a look at SPAR's building in this image. The space with the window facing 3rd & Main's courtyard was occupied by Viva Computers last year. With little effort, that window could be replaced by a door facing 3rd & Main's patio area. You would then have better connectivity between two buildings and a potential built-in revenue generator for SPAR. It would also reinforce the idea of improving existing buildings along Main to create a more viable commercial district.
After biking through downtown for the artwalk tonight, I fled to wafaa & mikes to dodge the rain.
I tried out the schrama wrap, which was freaking delicious. 7 bucks and a huge portion.
Got it to go and went next door to shanty and had to share 1/3rd of it with John H the bartender because I couldn't finish it all. We have a good thing going here, let's make sure they stay.
My only complaint is that they should be open later.
I ate there today and thought is was pretty good. The tea could use some help though.
Looks like the only thing left on the patio is the fountain?
I ate there last week and it was great. I had the sampler plate which is pretty much a giant pile of all sorts of stuff and all of it was good. I personally liked the iced tea. I drink it unsweet and there's this really nice spiced flavor that I can't quite pinpoint but it's very tasty. I'm going back this weekend for round 2.
The patio is beautiful and will be amazing when it's complete.
