Title: Any one know what is going into the space between Marks and Dive?
Post by: Basstacular on April 21, 2009, 03:32:14 PM
Not sure if this has been hit on, but as I was walking down Bay St. on this glorious day, I peered into an open door of a space between Dive and Marks.  There looked to be basic "gutting" going on and the space looked ideal for another nightspot.  Is something new coming to that spot?  Just curious, and it make lucky number 5 for the Bay St. "entertainment district".

A restaurant is going to be outstanding there.  Any links to pass along?  I haven't heard anything about it.

Stephen, if you talk to them...tell them install a dang sign like Ivey or Casa Dora has done.

A restaurant by Insetta at that location should thrive...I know I will be there!

apparently North Star Sub Station will also have a hanging sign soon...and those flashy neon lights on the palm trees too!

According to the folks at Orsay its not really a restaurant, (where would you park), it will compete as an upscale bar with Mark's and Ivy.

You probably have never had the pleasure of asking for a sign permit, so why spend money when you don't have to do so?

Parking-wise you could compare it to Chew on Adams Street. There really isn't an abundance of parking around that area either. However if it doesn't turn out to be a restaurant, it would still be nice to have a high-end bar added to the Bay St. mix.

QuoteSpace on East Bay Street near Mark’s and Dive Bar is currently undergoing interior demolition. Eventually it will be the site of chef Jonathan Insetta’s third restaurant, joining Downtown’s Chew and Cafe Orsay in Riverside. He grew up in Jacksonville and learned his craft first at Florida Community College at Jacksonville then at the Culinary Institute of America in New York.

I've only eaten at Chew's one time. It was really good. Great place for a dinner date downtown.
