Anyone have details on this project? I just heard the name through the grapevine...it's where the old Voodoo Lounge used to be on Adams Street near the Greyhound station. Just wondering what it's going to be like inside, when it's opening and what kind of crowd they're planning to entertain. I've seen "renovation" activity inside, but it looks like a slow process.
Yeah - there was a previous thread on this - Topic: The Old Voodoo Lounge

Ah...thanks, although not much info in that thread either. =)
I was just thinking the other day that I miss the Voodoo Lounge...can't wait to see what's there now.

Are there any updates on this place?
I thought it was supposed to open months ago...
The Sinclair is now open...I saw their sidewalk sign as I drove by on Friday night and decided to check it out yesterday. It's set up similarly to how the Voodoo Lounge was, with a large dark wood bar along the right side of the space flanked by huge paintings of Upton Sinclair and John Updike, exposed brick walls and beamed ceilings with a few large ceiling fans keeping it nice and cool inside. There's a large elevated stage in the back of the space and a hallway leading to renovated bathrooms. No more loft or back room as was in the Voodoo. Beer selection was not vast, but they had a good mix with 6 on draft (Miller Lite, Blue Moon, Yeungling, Sam Adams Summer, Southern Pecan and Magners cider) and probably 25 different bottles with everything from Bud Lite to Chimay. The DJ played a mixed bag of chill, instrumental jams last night, which really helped to set the vibe for the space. It's cool, relaxed, laid-back and understated...I dig it. According to the bartender, the official grand opening isn't until August while they finalize beer pricing and what not (good idea...a pint of Sam Adams for $5...I don't think so) but I suggest going to check it out. With a few tweaks, I can see it being a regular watering hole for me.

Yeah... gotta fix that!
Brennan Hamill is the new owner, and a friend of mine. He's a good guy....fresh blood for the growing downtown bar scene. Everybody should check it out! ;D
and they need to get some bold city in there...
Yes, The Sinclair is open! We are located at 521 W. Forsyth St., the site of the old Voodoo Lounge. The owners are Maya Adkins & Brennan Hamill. The Sinclair currently features paintings by local artist, Ryan Strasser. We have an eclectic beer & wine selection and we are still tinkering with inventory and pricing. Tonight is July Art Walk and we would love it if you'd pop on in for a sneak peek of the place! We'll be giving away delicious Sangria while supplies last! So, do come in and tell us what you think.
Is this the same space Jo-Ann's Chili Bordello was in years ago or was Jo-Ann's in the space next door to it?
Great addition I hope for Jacksonville's burgeoning downtown bar and club scene. Hope it is successful and hope its addition helps to expand the nightlife downtown on the river.

I went to The Sinclair this evening and had a terrible experience. I want more than anything for some more bars to open in this town, especially downtown, and everything about The Sinclair could work if the staff were not impossibly rude. Simply stated, these people are in the wrong business. The space was inviting, the music great, and selection of beer and wine was adequate. At my suggestion several of my friends met there this evening. We ordered six bottles of wine and tipped well but the staff were simply rude from the moment we arrived and it only progressed with time to the point it was almost comical. Regretfully, I will never go back to this place and it had such promise. I even liked the monogrammed matchbooks. So if you go make sure to wear your skinny jeans because these people would rather not have your money unless you fit their target demographic.
Wow riverside that sucks. I've been there 3 or 4 times and have not really had a problem. 2 times I had 1 bartender and the other 2 times another guy. One of them could be perceived as semi-smug but the other bartender I would actually describe as really nice. And I definitely was not wearing skinny jeans. ::)
Would you people get some skinny jeans already?!?!?

I went last night, was a nice mix of people. Was a VERY Indie crowd tho.
Limited selection in beer and wine, no harder liquore and limited seating. Is a good "Starter bar" someplace you go to socialze before going to your destination for the night.
Not my scene, probley wont go back. Me and my friend that went wernt really fitting in at all. ALTHOUGH $1 sakie shots kept me entertained.
Just very Scenie and Indie if that makes any since to anyone.
edit: In responce to River, the staff was more then accomidating to me and my friend and we didnt fit, actually did sakie shots with them. You might have come off as rude although it is a very young staff so Im sure they are still learning on bar serving
(Yes Im chasing river on this lol)

Seriously...I converted to skinny jeans about 1 year ago and the world has been a much kinder place for me. Things definitely have been better...it's all in the skinny jeans, it is the secret ingredient!
The Sinclair which is the old Voodoo Lounge is located on Forsyth. It is under new ownership and has added many more events to it's calendar since. Karaoke by DJ Randall is held on Tuesday's and will soon become one of the best karaoke nights in Jax. Wednesday is Open Stage and it is a great platform for many types of artists. Musician's can come jam, poets can recite, artist's can display, and comedians can humor us all, among others. Thursday's, Friday's, and Saturday's are usually reserved for live music, and it has not been short in talent. From out of town bands to local anomalies, you ears will never be bored. They offer great drink specials, from cheap draft and bottle beers to their specialty drinks, such as the Chocotini, and the Cupcake and Cotton Candy shots which are all extremely tasty. The atmosphere is top notch, and the patrons always make it a great time. You can check their monthly calender at Sinclairjax.com, or stop in any night and talk to the owners, Aj and Jason Wilson. You will not be disappointed!
Welcome Whiteaspen! Do you have a Happy Hour? If so what are the specials? :)
I know these are older posts, but the Sinclair is under new ownership and the enviroment has vastly changed. There are a lot more events happening and they are open for more than 3 days now. 3 different types of Bold City on tap, as well as Yeungling, Miller lite and others. There are fabulous specialty drinks like the Chocotini, Cotton Candy and Cupcake Shots, as well as a great selection of bottled beer, wine and great homemade Sangria. They also offer an amazing pulled pork sandwhich special that comes with the sandwhich, a $3 draft, aand a bag of chips for $8, and it is top notch. The Music is always amazing and it's always different. They don't care what you look like, they welcome you like family. AJ and Jason Wilson are the new owners with Chris Stanton as the bartender, and these 3 guys are awesome friends of mine. They take care of you as best they can. Tuesday is Karaoke with DJ Randall, and it's a stellar time. Wednesday is Open Stage and it's for musicians as well as poets, artists, comedians, etc. Any one is welcome to participate. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays usually offer amazing live bands, from out of town favorites to killer locals. Cover prices rarely go above $5 and it's well worth it. This is an amazing place to be and is only getting better!
Bridgetroll. Thanks!
They usually offer 2 for one Saki, Cupcake, or Cotton Candy Shots. It just depends on the day, but they are pretty reasonable in their pricing to begin with.
Your welcome! I happen to be a downtown happy hour warrior that currently hangs at Marks for their awesome happy hour. Will Try Sinclairs again soon
There are 3 great bands playing tonight. You should def check them out. Cover is $3 and it is also the owner(AJ)'s wife's birthday, so it will be a good time to be had by all!
When will they have Tough Junkie on stage?
Chris Stanton is in charge of entertainment, so find him on facebook or the Sinclair facebook page and ask him! If you can get in contact with anyone from that band, that would be better too. He needs someone to correspond with. They are always looking for great new bands! I believe they are talking of doing a show with Marion Crane, Shawn Fisher, and The Embraced coming soon....That should be epic!
