Goose Creek School in S.C. was stormed by police pointing pistols at the children while looking for pot. The video speaks for itself, had they done this to my sons or daughters the officers lives would be in peril. This is SHOCKING ABUSE!

This occurred in November of 2003. The civil case has already been settled with a multi million dollar award. The principle resigned. The school and students have codified protection against such misuse of the system. The system worked.

Yes, I realize the video is old, but if this is going to be the police tactics, we might as well live in North Korea. Settlement or no, this is an outrage especially since Marijuana is LEGAL in all 50 states. The law reads that one may apply for a permit to grow and sell pot - but ONLY if you can prove your product to the FDA so they can test it. The feds then made it illegal to own the pot which one would have to have to own in order to prove the quality to the FDA. Everything we "know" about this plant is built upon lies from the federal government. My point is don't you dare endanger my child's life when there are REAL CRIMES out there going without attention. What a sick society. A 14 year old with pot gets a trial as an adult and given 20 years, while the guy who killed his own child gets 5. UNFRICKING BELIEVEABLE.

Geez, what 14 year old got twenty years for possession of pot? Also, legal in all fifty states? State statutes say differently. I'd be curious to hear your explanation. While I certainly don't approve of the tactics in the video, I don't believe the choice is what your title says it is.

With guns drawn any one of those children might have stupidly reached into their jacket or bookbag for a cell phone or anything else. Reach and they'd probably be dead. Certainly it's not a sure thing, but would you put your own 14 year old here?
The laws I cite are Federal. It is the loophole that allows drug busts on a natural occuring weed. According to federal law one can own the plants and even distribute them, but in order to get that licence one must first produce the plant that one plans to sell. On the flip side of the same law, they made it illegal to posess the required amounts for a licence. But the licence is public federal law. I know, it's legal double-speak but true.
Why Congress Outlawed the Hemp Plant
On a hot Friday afternoon, August 20, 1937, at 5:45, Speaker of the House, Sam Rayburn, introduced a bill called The Marijuana Tax Act. The bill ordered American farmers to obtain a license from the Treasury Department to grow industrial hemp and made it a Federal crime for Americans to sell it without paying a 1% tax.
Farmers who wished to continue growing hemp soon discovered the Treasury Department would not issue a license. In effect, this nuisance bill had outlawed hemp.
The cannabis/hemp plant came in two versions. The first version was hemp, an industrial crop with a long history of use, and a very low THC content. The second version was marijuana, the same plant with a higher THC content. THC is the ingredient found in the blossoms and upper leaves and used throughout history as an intoxicant, and to treat a variety of medical problems.
Drug Commissioner Harry J. Anslinger, head of the FBN (Federal Bureau of Narcotics) first introduced the bill into committee hearings for review. The hearings, which should have gone on for days, lasted two hours.
Anslinger told the committee, "Marihuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users, insanity, criminality, and death." Anslinger chose the Mexican word "marihuana," because the committee did not know marihuana was the same cannabis/hemp plant grown by American farmers and prescribed by doctors as a medicine.
So in short you can sell it IF YOU PAY THE 1% tax, In order to sell it you must first have it, if you have it you
haven't paid the tax on what you have, and thus become a criminal.
The new law came under the jurisdiction of the Treasury Department as a tax issue because the Justice Department declined to persecute pot smokers.
The FBN and later its predecessor, the DEA, received the authority from Congress to arrest over ninety million Americans over the next seventy years. Twenty million went to prison.
In 1972 Nixon dismissed his own panel of experts, the Shafer Commission, (which recommended immediate decriminalization of marijuana) and began to build the largest prison system in the world. After 10,000 years of use, the hemp plant remains at the top of the DEA’s list of banned plants, next to heroin.

Agreed, that case has since been settled....it wasn't handled properly, which is why there were resignations, and money awarded. The system did, indeed work. I personally don't feel that it's worth the money and energy to go after those who use pot...and feel it should be legalized and regulated.
The fact is, it's this kind of headlines and positions that create an unfair and unrealistic view of the day to day workings of the police departments as a whole. Are there still cops that go overboard, yes...and most times they are dealt with through the system. However, the majority of them are good and honest people working at a job others could never do on a day to day basis. Most police departments have made great strides in better training their officers, and it's quite rare when you see anything like what's shown in that video. It's not like law enforcement is out to get kids that have pot, using excessive force.

I used to love that quote in the comic at top when I was in high school. I would say it all the time when me and my stoner buddies would leave campus for one of our "sessions".
This was IN Goose Creek, SC, but was actually Stratford High. My husband was a grad in '90 there. He said Principal McCrackin was pretty abusive of his power from day one; a number of parents in the community had wanted him out for some time.
