I am far from a biblical scholar.  I have often wished, however, that there was more of Jesus's life as a man in the Bible.  We know He was compassionate -- the raising of Lazarus  and turning water into wine among other miracles.  We also know He could get annoyed -- perhaps even angry: driving the money changers out of the temple (at least according to some of the stories).

We also learned how He "went about His Father's business" and scared Mary and Joseph half to death because He went missing.  That's about the limit of what I can remember.

What was He like as a child, as a young man?  Did He have a girlfriend?  What kind of games did He play as a child?  I wish there were more information about Him than I've been able to find in the Bible.

watch "Religulous", a documentary, then get back to me.

I am a Christian, but that movie illustrates much of the ridiculousness and human flaws that went into making the Bible and shaping the religion as a whole. I don't agree with the doc's conclusion nessecarilt, but the facts and points he talk about are worth thinking about.

It addresses this very question as to what the heck was he doing from the time he was born until his 30's.

The reason why a lot of information is omitted is because GOD wanted us to focus on the main point(s) and focus of why Jesus was on Earth, and that is to offer Mankind the choice of eternal life, if we choose, based on Him (Jesus) giving his life on the cross (the crucifixion) for every single one of us; if this had not happened, we would indeed be lost and not ever have the option to go back home (Heaven) where God and Jesus, and the rest of the Heavenly hosts (angels, and humans who accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior and died and went to Heaven (who are known as Saints)).

So...the main and most important points and aspects of Jesus life are his birth, the many miraculous things, deeds, and wonders he performed throughout most of his life (miracles, healing, prophecy, etc.), and of couse his death.  We must remember that even here on earth from an early age up until about our early 20's, we are engrossed in pre-school, school (elementary, middle, high school), and then college if we can afford it.  Therefore, we can say that from an early age on until adulthood, Jesus was being taught not only by his Parents and possibly the earthly school system, but by God himself.

If we truly, from the heart accept Him (Jesus) as Lord and Savior, our sins are washed away for all eternity, but we must stay and remain in him and not think that after we accept him as Lord and Savior, we can continue on our own without Him.

Lastly, God is not a God of demanding worship.  He lets us choose to worship, accept, and love Him and His Son Jesus as Lord, Savior and God.  I will not go into what will happen if we reject this free gift of eternal life; we all will one day know the horror of rejecting and hating God, and the eternal bliss and love of accepting Him as Lord and Savior.

One thing which has always irritated me is a question which goes something like this:  Where was God when this happened?  Why did God allow --- to do this?  That question has been asked about almost everything that people don't like -- from the Inquisition to the Nazis gassing millions of people to someone dying of whatever disease to who won the election.  What irritates me is that I don't believe God "allows" things to happen -- He gave us free will and that permits us to do whatever we want.  God, Whoever or Whatever you might choose to call Him, also gave us "commandments" or some kind of rules, depending upon your religious beliefs, to let us know what He expects.  I think if we don't do what He's told us to do, then we might not be very pleased with what happens after death.

Macbeth, If you're curious about Jesus as a child then you might want to look into the Gnostic Gospels.  Its a collection of gospels that were not canonized by the church as part of the New Testament.  If I remember correctly it is the Gospel of Thomas that has passages that speak about Jesus' youth.

Thank you.  I've heard of those but haven't read much of them.  I think they were "outlawed" (that's not the right word) by the Church, weren't they?  I've heard that they have a lot of facts in them, though. I'll have to look that up.

The Gnostic gospels are the main focus of the Nag Hammadi Scrolls or library; named Nag Hammadi after the area of the middle east (Egypt?) that they were discovered in.  They are also considered part of the apocrypha which might be what you are thinking of as "The Other Bible", Stephen. The Apocrypha, from what I remember, are texts written around the same time as the canonized books of the New Testament and exhibit similar teachings and passages of the canonized gospels but were deemed as heretic by the early church due to a plethora of reasons.  One reason, I distinctly remember, was the role that women played in the writing of these texts.

Macbeth, If you do go looking for books to read up on this topic I would avoid all the "Davinci Code" nonsense.  It seems a lot of books popped up concerning Gnosticism after the success of that movie and the Dan Brown novel.  I tried to find my old text book on The Gnostics so I could give you the name and author but I'm pretty sure I sold it back to the UNF book store for Taco Bell money.   :) There is a book called "The Early Church" by E. Glenn Hinson that you might be interested in.  It's an interesting read and gives insight on how the new testament was shaped by the early church.

OK, I'll look for that.  I seem to remember some sort of book, perhaps one of the "outlawed" ones, about Judas.  Am I right about that?

The Gospel of Judas is one of the Gnostic Gospels along with the Gospel of Thomas, and the Gospel of Mary.  There are a couple others but I can't currently think of their names.  I believe all the books were written around 4 A.D.

I wasnt around for it but here...

Many people have been celebrating Zombie Jesus Day for years without even realizing it. Honestly, let's face a few facts:
1. Everything that rises from the dead is a zombie.
2. Easter is touted as the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
3. So let's call a spade a spade
4. Eat lots of chocolate

AND CELEBRATE ZOMBIE JESUS DAY!

while I board the first class ticket to hell I have heard people call Good Friday "Jesus On A Stick Day" I laughted and laughted and now wish everyone a good one.
