Title: What's going on in Murray Hill these days?
Post by: fsu813 on April 04, 2009, 12:35:58 AM
I've driven around the area a lot the past couple days.....just wondering if anything new or interesting is on the horizon.

ie) new restaurants, businesses, festivals, clubs, organizations, plans, etc.

Thanks!

With better service, who knows, maybe they could have stayed in place. The owners had their house foreclose on them BEFORE 1171 went under, could it have been the beginning of the end.....???

Orsay probably put one too many nails in the coffin for 1171.

When MRP dies, then there will be mirrored spaces without people. Perhaps the empty space will become a convenience store.   ;D

I was at Moon River on Friday night (excellent pizza and service by the way) and I noticed that the place formerly known as "The Venue" and before that "Martinis" (I think) had a new sign.  I can not totally remember what it was called, though.  Something like "Edge 17" or "The Edge".

Anyway, that is 1 of the things happening in Murray Hill.

I also understand that Biscottis will be opening a bakery near that strip too.

As much as I like Biscotti's, I don't know if that's going to fly. Edgewood Bakery is already right there...

That's going to be a tough market!

I think Biscottis may be using the site as a production facility for Biscotti's and BB's desserts, but long term I think the plan is to open to the public too.

Personally, I have never been impressed w/ Edgewood Bakery.  Maybe I have just not tried the right stuff there because God knows I love cakes, cookies, and pastries!   ;D

The space adjacent to and above Wine Warehouse is being renovated...apparently Wine Warehouse is expanding their space.  Not sure what's going on upstairs...storage or residential??

Edgewood is pretty good, not sure what you've had there, but I like their muffins, bagels, etc. Their stuff is fresh, but they don't do complicated things like some other places, so if that's what you like then I can see how you'd be disappointed.

If you like complicated stuff, then you should go to the French Pantry. They will absolutely knock your socks off. I do like Biscotti's desserts also, but they're a hair below French Pantry. Biscotti's has copied several of FP's desserts (like the Dream-sicle cake, and the Strawberry Shortcake cake), and I'm not sure what the slight differences are, but the originals are better.

They're over off Phillips Highway south of San Marco. If you've never been, they run a FANTASTIC lunch spot too, but it gets annoying because they only have like 4 tables and you can never get in if you're in a rush.

I think you are the 3rd person that I have heard rave about the French Pantry.  I definitely need to check it out some time.
