QuotePONTE VEDRA â€" The company that bought Sawgrass Village two years ago has submitted preliminary plans to St. Johns County for a $164 million renovation project to transform the shopping center into a mixed commercial and residential community complete with a pedestrian-friendly Main Street.
The proposed project would increase the amount of commercial space from 138,088 square feet to 192,000 square feet and the office space from 25,008 square feet to 115,500 square feet. It would also add 325 multifamily units and 7.5 acres of public open space.
According to county records, the proposed project includes the redevelopment of the community commercial area on the northern portion of the property that now includes a Publix Super Markets Inc. grocery store, CVS Caremark Corp. pharmacy and other retailers; the replacement of the portion of the shopping center on the central and southeast portion of the property with a mixed-use village with retail and restaurant uses on the ground floor and multifamily residential uses above; construction of an office building, multifamily units and additional commercial space on the southwest portion of the property; and creation of public spaces throughout the property that will include a public boulevard called Main Street connecting State Road A1A with TPC Boulevard.

I wish they would bring McKenzie's back. The current condition of the center does leave alot to be desired so renovations make sense.
