Title: Shots in Avondale Sunday Night
Post by: SunKing on April 01, 2009, 05:15:09 PM
I heard 12 shots last Sunday night about 12:30am.  It sounded like around McDuff and Remington.  Anybody hear anything.  Never saw any news on it.

I think civil means that McDuff is not considered Avondale by some. I think that Edgewood is the official boundary for Avondale. Can someone give an official def of where Avondale ends and Riverside begins.

Rather than dwell on semantics, did anyone hear shots or know of any occurrences in the general vicinity?

I heard no shots, but with regard to the border, it depends on who you ask.  The USPS ZIP code break is King, and I think the historic orgainizations call it McDuff.

I'm in that area. The "official" boundary is McDuff. I'm on the riverside side. :) Hearing shots from the other side of Lee is a common occurrence. It's usually from the other side of 17. I didn't catch anything around that time, but it doesn't surprise me at all. That poor Kangaroo gets robbed once a week it seems.

Thanks.  Probably someone shooting their Glock in the air.  Kids these days...and not that it matters but Avondale Ave. itself is 2 blocks North of Edgewood.  McDuff is a couple of blocks North of that.  I am assuming that Avondale Avenue is actually a part of Avondale and that Avondale extends further north than Avondale Ave.

I always thought Cherry Street was the boundary, but that just may be so Avondale can claim the park and library. =)

QuoteCan someone give an official def of where Avondale ends and Riverside begins.

According to noted Historian Dr. Wayne Wood, of Riverside Avondale Preservation, the dividing street between Riverside and Avondale is Seminole. In reality Avondale was originally ONLY 4 streets North/South (Talbot, Edgewood, Avondale and Challen). Riverside and St. Johns carried East/West traffic from Riverside in the beginning.

I always thought it was Cherry myself, but not per Dr. Wood.

Avondale has plenty of parks, and medians not to be concerned with the park next to the library..... :-X

Does anyone know how to read a map? Avondale runs parallel to Edgewood and is EAST of Edgewood. Mcduff is EAST of Avondale and is not considered Avondale.

Actually since everyone seems to want to worry about stupid details, its more like NE.  Check your map.

I think what civil meant was the difference in McDuff after you pass the Fire station...Scary.
I will comment on the Tracer rounds and other Gunfire I and several others witnessed and heard New Years eve at the Stockton BP station. The rounds were blatantly fired in an arc over I-10 and intentionally landing in Riverside blocks all the way to the river.Yes JSO was called.  Once again...Thugs do what they want when they want. >:(

ahhh true enough, I do apologise for not getting back to this post.  I'm more used to mcduff on the other side of 17.  Up past edgewood.  Always forget that it gets into the more respectible parts of town.  Jakes Place anyone.  mY wife and I were setting by our pool off lane, on New years eve, sharing some wine and beer.  when the clock stuck one the ak-47's from the home boys went off, we quickly retreated into the house.

Quotedifference in McDuff after you pass the Fire station

Once you cross the tracks, its really Murray Hill to the left and Riverside to the right (actually it is, and 17 runs right through Riverside on its way to I-10).

Winn Dixie pulls out, the neighborhood is mostly lower educated, no real school except Lee across 17, no elementary or middle school until the other side of edgewood. Sort of a neighborhood, like many others in Jax, that time forgot.

So, in a thread about shots in Avondale Sunday night, can anyone provide additional information regarding the shots?

Shots were fired in the vicinity of a neighborhood, close to downtown. Nothing was reported on Fox News, the only news worth watching, more in the FTU, if they presses are not sold to the chinese in the morning to pay for the debt.....
