Title: Diane Whitten from Uncommon Grounds lands in Springfield. (finally)
Post by: stephendare on March 28, 2009, 10:38:37 AM
Word comes this morning that Diane Whitten is joining the Springfield Business community and adding her distinctive gentle and funky touch to a cafe/pub on Market Street in the Northeast Quadrant.

It will serve breakfast and lunch and have a beer and wine for night.

She has two other partners in the venue and should have it open by late June.  Also good news.

Is this a coffee spot or more of a lunch/wine/dinner spot?

Where is the exact location....the building at Market & 11th?

Make sure she at least keeps her receipts for build out so she can get a little money back from the state.  Is she planning to keep the name Uncommon Grounds?

Cool.  Hopefully it will spur some activity in the warehouse district.

yup

Are you talking about the building that was turned into 2 residential condos?  Those were really nice, but I thought they were sold and were residential?

Anything coming to SPR is good news.

I believe that site is zoned to allow live/work use.  So it could be used as residential or commercial.  That's one of the benefits of operating a business in an urban neighborhood like Springfield.

Yeah, could be.  They are putting a pool in the back so maybe someone is living in the big unit and the smaller one will be the wine/pub/coffee place.

I know the couple that bought that property.  It was my understanding that they bought the entire building and combined the 2 units.  They have already moved in and yes, they are currently putting a pool in as well.  I rode up there on my bike and wasn't sure if it was another building on that corner............

the area isn't very nice, thus they won't have as much success as 3 layers.

The area has a lot of potential as a historic warehouse/loft conversion/arts enclave.
Scott, who bought 2111 Liberty is working hard.
When you here about that, and one or two other projects in the area, that's a glimmer
of hope in a grim real estate environment.

Even in this economy you can walk down most any street in Springfield and see homes still being renovated and new SRG homes being built.  I think that says allot for our neighborhood..

Where is this exactly? I thought someone said the building at 11 & Market but tpot said it was someone's home. If so, not the greatest choice of location but great that they're coming!

The continued activity from SRG and on other houses gives me hope (Obama-level hope).
