Title: 3 road projects win federal stimulus money
Post by: thelakelander on March 12, 2009, 09:44:39 AM
Local Road Projects to be funded by federal stimulus:

Beach Boulevard - will be widened from 4 to 6 lanes between Hodges and San Pablo for $29.8 million.

A1A - will be widened from 2 to 4 lanes from Stratton to Griffin for $56.6 million in Nassau County.

Branan Field Road - a new $14.7 million overpass at Plantation Oaks Boulevard in Clay County.

Other projects expected to be funded are:

$7.5 million to resurface and modify intersections at Alta Drive and New Berlin Road from Zoo Parkway to 9A.

$5 million for drainage improvements and safety upgrades on Ninth Street in Jacksonville Beach.

$19 million for JTA to improve the bus system.

Projects that missed the cut:

1/2 of Florida 9B - from 9A to US 1 - $160 million

1st phase of Jacksonville Transportation Center - $50 million

(both projects deemed too expensive)

The projects that missed the cut seem way more important to me than widening A1A or pouring one more cent into the underused bus system.

I'm stoked the 9B extension is cut.  Also, the JTC needs to be revamped and consolidated.  Maybe this denial will be a push to do so.
