Title: Lou Dobbs poll
Post by: gatorback on March 02, 2009, 07:24:06 PM
I mostly get violently ill whenever I flip past Lou Dobbs on the tube.  Is it me or is it Lou?

Seems like the folks over at CNN had enough with Lou as well. After 27 years they ended his contract and the reason he gave this morning was they were tired of his opinion. And that's how I felt about him.

So a guy that had an opinion, and wasn't ashamed to voice it on his own CNN show, got fired.  I can just picture the brass at CNN, pulling a Vince McMahon-style "You're FIIIIHHHRED!"

He didn't get fired

Having rarely seen his show, I really don't have a take on the guy.

What is the reasoning behind the disdain for him? (OP)

He had an opinion and it wasn't liberal.

My understanding, and a credit to the network itself, the brass wants more straight up news and that's the the way it should be. Like the way Mr. Walter Cronkite delivered the news. Cronkite never added his opinion to the news, he just reported it. Cheers CNN.

Good, get CNN back to what is was meant to be, not copying Fox News, if you can even call that a news channel anymore.

They don't call it FOX Entertainment News for nothing. But as far as Lou, has anybody caught his XM Radio show?

This is from dropdobbs.com.

Congratulations!

Thank you for all your hard work.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

Wednesday, Nov 11 was Lou Dobbs’ last show on CNN. Dobbs’ sudden departure is a powerful reminder of what we are capable of when we work together. For years, Dobbs used his prominent platform on CNN as a perch to spread hate, misinformation, and wild conspiracy theories. Thanks in no small part to your continued dedication and activism, Dobbs no longer has that platform.

Watch a video highlighting our efforts against Dobbs.

In September, more than a dozen prominent Hispanic, progressive, and civil rights groups, launched DropDobbs.com, which placed new focus on Dobbs’ ongoing hate speech and misinformation.  The DropDobbs coalition, representing over 2 million people, includes Media Matters, NDN, the National Council of La Raza, LULAC, the National Hispanic Media Coalition, America’s Voice Education Fund, The Hispanic Institute, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Netroots Nation, Voto Latino, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, the Center for New Community, Reform Immigration for America, the National Puerto Rican Coalition, the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials and the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

Through this coalition, and with the power of the petition signed by tens of thousands of people like you behind us, we worked successfully behind the scenes to persuade major corporations to stop advertising on Lou Dobbs Tonight!  CNN got the message. And they got it in their bottom line.

Today, thanks to your efforts and the work of our partners at BastaDobbs.com and Democracia, Dobbs can no longer use CNN as a platform to pursue his dangerous, one-sided, and often conspiracy-tinged crusade against immigrants.  Referring to the DropDobbs coalition, the Washington Post said that “[this] latest effort showed that the fragmented Latino movement could find allies and maintain a sustained campaign. Immigrant demonizers have an increasingly formidable opponent.” We couldn’t agree more.

Although our work is by no means over, as this success powerfully demonstrates, when we work together, we can have a meaningful impact and create real change. This is a happy day for those who care about our nation of immigrants and believe in the power of media to elevate the political discourse.

Thank you for your help in holding the media accountable.

Si se puede indeed.

Yes; however, before, if Lou Dobbs was on, I wouldn't. Why you ask?

CNN is FOX News... Just slanting from a different side of the political spectrum. Infotainment at it's finest.

I concur.  This is why I watch ABC World News Now.  It's their 18th birthday today if you didn't know.

Jeramey Hubbard and Vinita Nair are cute together, and they deliver news in a way that makes me laugh! Happy Birthday!!!  World News Now Insomniacs on Facebook if you want to join the fun.

Does Lou Dobbs have a Facebook? Oh god. He does. If you want to read some serious crap....

Well Lou Dobbs is right about illegal immigrants and he keeps pushing that but none is taking him serious.
Turns out Lou is a bad guy while illegal immigration is ok,which supported by wealthy people who abuse cheap labor.
They make sure nobody stops those aliens coming in US or staying here.

And of course it is Lou that is an idiot in all this.

But he never just presented the evidence. He always either refuted or endorsed for ratings. My take was he often portrayed a nation under siege by "illegals."  Why didn't he report how immigrants  contribute as taxpayers, entrepreneurs, consumers, and workers? No, it was always passionately "they took our job."

When people want to hear new music, they get rid of the band leader. No one wants to hear his rhetoric aka music, he should become born-again, and change his name to Ziggy and grow some dreadlocks, then come back on with a new attitude.

Not really. MSNBC is Fox News for the left. CNN employs actual journalists like John Roberts and Larry King. Fox and MSNBC employ commentators like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Keith Olbermann and Ed Schultz that spoon feed people exactly what they want to hear.

I'm thinking that CNN has copied FOX's presentation/content stylings. MSNBC caters to a more well read (socialist propaganda, but well read none the less) demographic. In the case of Maddow, and Olberman I find your assessment a fair one. Maddow is Hannity's nephew and Olberman is O'Riely's twin blowhard.

Fox News! That doesn't even sound right. Now that Mrs. Palin is on it...I can't wait for this one.
