Title: NS/FEC to build intermodal terminal in Titusville
Post by: thelakelander on January 28, 2009, 09:50:54 AM
I wonder if the big boys in Jax know anything about this.

QuoteNORFOLK, Va., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Norfolk Southern (NYSE: NSC) will open a new intermodal terminal in Titusville, Fla., Feb. 16, that will provide shippers of containers and trailers with improved access to central Florida.  Norfolk Southern also has established a new, faster route for intermodal traffic between Chicago and Jacksonville and Miami, Fla., improving service by a full day.

The new terminal will enable Norfolk Southern to provide highly reliable, truck-competitive service between Titusville and Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles when combined with capacity and efficiency improvements along these routes.  The terminal is strategically located near the Orlando and Tampa markets via the Bee-Line Expressway.  Norfolk Southern serves the terminal via the Florida East Coast Railroad.

The new Chicago-Florida train will improve service by a full day versus existing schedules.  Chicago-Miami service will improve from 4th morning to 3rd morning availability, and Chicago-Jacksonville service will improve from 3rd morning to 2nd afternoon availability.  The new train will depart Chicago from Norfolk Southern's 63rd Street terminal, replacing the Florida service at Landers terminal.  This service begins Feb. 9, and traffic from Chicago to the new Titusville terminal will also ride this train.

"We are excited to bring Norfolk Southern's intermodal service to central Florida," said Mike McClellan, vice president intermodal and automotive marketing.  "We will be adding service to Titusville from additional markets soon."

Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) is one of the nation's premier transportation companies.  Its Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates approximately 21,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, serving every major container port in the eastern United States and providing superior connections to western rail carriers.  Norfolk Southern operates the most extensive intermodal network in the East and is North America's largest rail carrier of metals and automotive products.

Sounds like more train traffic for NE Florida.  We need to get service options to Blount Island and end the CSX monopoly.

Well if Jax is asleep at the wheel, this could be a good thing for Port Canaveral.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the Big Boys in Jax either don't know how to approach this rail opportunity (asleep at the wheel as someone said), or just don't care.  If they don't know how or are unaware maybe the Big Boys in this forum should show them how, wake them up and make them aware.

I'm telling you this is a sign and signal that if Jax doesn't want to do the job or get the job done, someone else will! :-[

Sounds like it means more trains crossing the St. Johns and going thru San Marco.  Or is it just one more train a day?  More reason to add a track for commuter rail along the FEC.

I am sure that many of the "big" boys in jax. are quite aware....I mean we do have one of the biggest RR companies in the US located here...CSX is very involved in the Chamber of Commerce....pus, the folks at JTA have been working with all the rail companies as part of the Commuter Rail study.

Don't assume that Jax. missed out here....it sounds to me like FEC is adding the terminal to serve the central Florida market....just like the new CSX terminal that will go up in Winter Haven.

CSX Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Michael J. Ward has led a remarkable turnaround at CSX. Through his leadership...

Not those guys.  I'm wondering if the city and JaxPort can take advantage of NS's improvements.  If we could somehow make the new terminals more accessible to NS and FEC, Jax would stand to benefit greatly.

Keep in mind that BIG railroad company moved here in the early 1960's. This was still in an era of private passenger trains, hauling huge crowds to Florida on 4 railroads in Jacksonville. The "Big Guys" in City hall were not even around to fill their diapers with the crap that comes ozzing out of there today. Baby Peyton is clueless and frankly, invested in concrete and oil, I bet he'd just like to keep it that way. Screw us! Daddy sends him a check.

We have already missed out on many opportunities to claim our status as the rail hub of Florida. In fact the High Speed Rail Commission as well as FDOT both have plans to make the new hub in Orlando. screw us!

We allowed the newly merged SCL railroad (just before CSX-Family Lines) to rip out the old SECOND DRAW bridge over the trout river and thus our SECOND access to the northside. screw us!

SCL and now CSX enjoys the status of OWNING the port... You really think they care to share with NS or FEC get some of that traffic? screw us!

FEC and NS are forced to Port Canaveral as the most NORTHERLY port in their joint systems. (They haven't merged but are certainly partners) So they too have little interest in swinging a belt RR around the northside to grab that free trade zone and drop down by Blount Island, MOL, etc. screw us!

JaxPort thinks we need another time killing/car parking railroad yard to solve "all our problems"... yeah, like I need a bad case of crabs. screw us!

JTA can't even find it's way to run a bus system right now with Peyton trying to peck out the last crumbs of subsidy the City PROMISED THE CITIZENS we'd have. screw us!

JAXPORT? Give me a call! Otherwise the fix is in.

Airline hub - Orlando
Freeway/Turnpike hub - Orlando
Passenger rail hub - ORLANDO
Passenger rail Maint. Hub - SANFORD
Cruise Ship hub - Canaveral
Rail Freight hub - Waycross and Winter Haven, Titusville.
Ports Tonnage hub - Tampa
Newest and closest port focused on Panamax Ships - Manatee
New Commuter Rail or LRT System's - Orlando - Tampa
Sole area on the East Coast with more the 100 miles of new freight AND passenger rail routes proposed - Orlando/Canaveral/West Palm

Gee sounds to me like the really big boy's DO get it... The same rat that closed 80% of Floridas classic tourist attractions now desires to eat our last chunk of cheese - Notice a pattern anyone? screw us.

Recent polls have shown at least 90% of Jacksonville politicians have had wet dream fantasys of being in bed with MICKEY - Well hell, they qualify! screw us

With the leadership coming out of this city over the next 2 years, we might well make it into the ORLANDO *M.S.A. before the next election. (*M.S.A. = Mouse Screwed Area)

WAKE THE HELL UP MY LOVELY CITY OF (what are we?) screw us!

Instead of Where Florida Begins, can we have this? " Jacksonville: Florida's Progressive Development Speed Barrier."
