Help is on the way...Mike Weinstein!
As most of you know, it's official...Mike Weinstein is a real, live candidate for Mayor. For months, and years in some cases, many of us here have been belly-aching and moaning about the lack of leadership coming out of City Hall. Namely, from one man named John Peyton.

This is the chance to get our city running smoothly again. I hope we dont miss this chance. He is honest, will select an honest staff, and is not beholden to special interests. He has my support.
The perfect politician. He is both for and against the return of Cecil to the Navy. He feels the people should speak in a non-binding vote and feels the city should not persue jets for their costs and destruction of the Westside. .. ....Perfect!
Alex, that is why this is a democracy and not a dictatorship.
Weinstein's as beholden to special interests as any other politician in this city. He's probably not an improvement over Peyton and definitely not a huge improvement. Give Peyton credit for one thing, while perhaps he hasn't been exemplary at leading this city, he's been willing to listen to what his constituents have to say. And don't kid yourselves: the Cecil Field referendum is the work of Navy-lovers and a Ponte Vedra-ite trying to appeal to the people of Jacksonville's patriotism the same way national politicians have tried to use the war in Iraq to win recent elections. For the whole city to decide on a factor with such an extreme impact on the quality of life of the people living near Cecil is not democracy, its a potential tyranny of the many over the few.
Sounds like some Peyton supporters were quick to nix Mike. Those comments should be taken with a pinch of salt. No one who has been in politics for any length of time comes without some baggage. The question is, what will they do in the future understanding what has and has not worked in the past. Mike has over 25 years of experience. Peytons inexperience and love of his special friends has driven a very weak administration and and has displayed veritably no leadership skills.
Mike has the experience and understanding to pull Jacksonville up from this veritable "pit" of incompetence that John Peyton has dug for us.
Looks like Mike might be thinking that the voters dont feel as Metjax does. I would be sorry to see him leave the race. I was looking forward to hearing how he wanted to attack certain issues. Fortunately we still have Brown and Melendez too. I'm looking forward to hearing their platform. It must contain more than just attacking Peytown. It has to.
