Post by: Gknee on January 17, 2009, 04:01:21 PM
Haven't seen any reviews on this place. Does anyone have any information on this eatery?

If you are in the mood for a "greasy spoon diner" this is your place.

I had a late breakfast there once a few months ago.  Typical Mom and Pop diner.  Price and quality was good.

thanks for the quick responses.  We may have to put it on our "to try" list.  We like to keep local eateries in business :)

Typical greasy spoon type of place. Same deal as the Fox, Dave's diner, etc. Not that good, but not that expensive either, so you don't mind it.

I really miss the days when the Fox was creative. They used to have all sorts of good sandwiches and other menu items. Remember "The Affair"? It used to be soooooooo good. The menu was easily 5 pages.

Then the new owner bought it, ditched everything good, and now it's just the same omelettes and bacon and eggs that you can get anywhere, and none of it is particularly good.  >:( But you know the worst part? They ditched the good stuff, shrunk the menu to 1 page, and jacked the prices up...and the place went from being busy to being absolutely packed all the time. WTF????? The people in this city are so silly sometimes.

Chris you are so right I thought the Fox was going to die when it stopped being different.  I guess there is a reason there are so many waffle houses.

That's not the point.

Did you go back in 2000-2002ish, before the switch? You wouldn't be making jokes if you did. It was alot better.

No, I haven't moved on. EVER. I am completely incapable of forgetting the travesty of what I call the "Fox Incident"...

So every morning around 5, I grab my picket sign and start marching back and forth in front of the Fox, chanting "bring back the menu...bring back the menu". I have been doing this since 2001, and I feel they will soon take notice! Of course I'm single, can't keep a job, and live under a bridge, because my campaign against the Fox takes up every waking minute of every day, and there's no time to waste doing things like showering, or making money, but hey, it's SO TOTALLY worth it, because I just can't get over that menu...

WTF dude, seriously?

More often than not breakfast should be just breakfast. Runny eggs toast bacon piping hot coffee.. I don't need anything fancy or gourmet in the morning.

Derby house is just that's special to me.

I like Daves diner better. Derbys prices are too high for a greasy spoon I think.

Metro is pricey.  I loved the Fox when the old man and women owned it.  Who remembers the Porsche driving thru the front window.  The Derby's special is cold toast.  Dave's got it--the prices are right.

My fiancee had breakfast at Worman's (204 Broad St) last week and really liked it. I'm not big on breakfast so I haven't been to any myself.

Cute avatar jt.  I like 2 eggs, 2 bacon, grits and toast with apple jelly.  And I want to spend $2.99.  M-F the Derby had that special.  The coffee was an additional buck I think.

I usually get an omelette with homefries and a drink, it ends up being over $10.

I have eaten there several times. Service is good and the ladies are really nice. Dont expect anything special. It is what it is, a small diner that serves comfort food at affordable prices(especially on weekdays with the breakfast and lunch specials.
