The proposed $127 million Jacksonville Transportation Center (JTC) will involve bringing the old Jacksonville Terminal (Prime Osborn) back to its original use. When complete the terminal will serve JTA buses, the Skyway, Greyhound, Amtrak, and potentially commuter rail. Other components include 2,200 parking spaces, +30,000sf of retail, and a transportation office building for JTA.

Finally, the City does something that makes sense in Transporation... Now, if we could just convince them that an Unfinished Skyway, Bus (only)  Mall, and BRT, are all Stupid plans. Finish the skyway to Riverside/5 Points, Springfield, Stadium and San Marco, tie it´s ends to bus routes with stations that resemble mini-transit-centers. Add Amtrak, Commuter Rail DMU´s , North over the LRT line and beyond to Fernandina Beach, South to St. Augustine and Green Cove Springs, West to Baldwin (with a possible Gainesville link in the future).  Light Rail (LRT) Across downtown East-West (Transportation Center-Stadium) North into Springfield/Airport, South into San Marco/San Jose, East over New Matthews bridge to Regency/Beaches... Look at electric busses as downtown shuttles and shift the diesel fleet to the end point s of the mini-transit-centers to range farther out. How hard can this be to figure out?

Like the Courthouse the concept is fantastic, but the Prime Osbourne is REALLY in the way and needs to be moved out of there. The project also suffers from poor planning or design layout, with a couple of REAL boneheaded ideas from the Commuter Rail consultants.

Like the Courhouse, it will break ground in August, uh, September, um, November, after Feburary...? Let's hope they stop it and do a JAXPORT review on the terminal before they dive in over their heads and lock us into some more poor planning.

IE:
Scrap most of the BRT plan as-is
reconfigure BRT as a rail/Skyway feeder
Finish the damn Skyway to San Marco-5 Points-Stadium
Build streetcar and trolley bus downtown
Add Commuter Rail
Bring Amtrak home to downtown.
