JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Princeton Review has named the University of North Florida as one of the 50 best value public colleges in the country.
The New York-based education services company recently ranked the top 50 public and private colleges.
The Princeton Review based its rankings on surveys of administrators and students at more than 650 private and public colleges and universities.
The rankings were determined by evaluating a school's academic performance, cost of attendance and financial aid.

How do you think they keep tuition down?
By overselling parking permits, they can then make up for low tuition by charging all of those parking tickets they collect.
hey, i was just reading that article before I came to metrojax.
congrats.

Well in one fell swoop, we're back to the subject of lousy transit service AGAIN. BTW the Federal government has "University Transit" grants that are quite generous... sort of makes one think, "What if". Any school shuttle bus service can be converted into a complete community bus line through the program. Imagine, buses to STJTC, Beach, Beaches, Kernan, Southside, Hodges and San Pablo all with a UNF hub.OCKLAWAHA
well they did add a new parking lot on the north side of campus and a shuttle bus system this year.
FYI, FSU was #5 in that list (out of the top 10 public schools)
New College Florida was #2 (who the heck???)
UCF and USF were also on the list.
New College is a former branch campus of USF, located in Sarasota. It severed ties with USF in 2001 to become the 11th independent school in the Florida State University System.

The idea to connect the 'new' campus shuttle service to the student apartments on Kernan was discussed but UNF was apparently against it. I heard the apartments offered to help with the costs but they still said no. I think if they extended the shuttle to SJTC it would be extremely popular. I know a lot of students go to SJTC for lunch but hate moving their cars. Even if they made SJTC cover some of the costs, I imagine they would be made up in sales pretty quickly. I'm still shocked that the campus is only served by 2 bus lines.
Are the apartments on Kernan UNF housing? UNF is one of the most dense campuses I have ever seen. Especially considering it's surburban setting. JTA shuttle service between St. Johns Town Center would be cost effective and popular but all current resources are currently tied up shuttling the homeless people around downtown for free. If you find this disturbing please contact the mayor, JTA and your city council representative.

I believe New College has always been high on the list. I do not remember seeing FSU before though.

I went to Penn State and that campus has high density. All of the buildings on Penn State are only on half of the land that the school has - Beaver Stadium is actually in the middle of what the university owns so half of it isn't developed. I think a study on State College would be great as it has a vibrant downtown and campus that work well together.
Congrats to UNF

I DON'T MEAN TO BOAST HERE but DAMN! Stillwater, Oklahoma can figure this out and FDOT - JTA - UNF can't?

The apartments on Kernan are not part of UNF housing, but they are private student-only apartments. UNF is opening a new housing complex on the eastern part of the campus that will have an entrance on Kernan. No word yet on how this will effect the campus shuttle system, but the powers that be on campus are considering changing the loop to potentially be one-way or making the area around the arena an island and making cars turn around on both sides. Both ideas seem a little silly.

It's only going to get more dense. They're planning on replacing all the surface lots inside the loop with parking garages on the outer part of campus. These surface lots will be replaced with new buildings until there is no longer any room inside the loop, at which point they'll start developing the eastern and northern sections of campus, along with the area in the First Coast Tech Parkway if they are able to acquire it.

Indeed.

I agree 100%. It's not that hard, plus a SJTC extension would be a perfect test of branching out from campus. The buses have to go out that way anyways since the Shell station on Gate south of JTB is the closest gas station. Might as well at least have them take some passengers.
maybe we should compare the size of UNF with others before deciding that they (and the City/JTA) are inept...for example, Ock lists Okie State...well they have over 30,000 students....and UNF has just over 15,000!

This is true, however the bus serves the entire metro of Stillwater, on the Community Transit Grant from the feds. Every corner of the "city" of 39,000 is covered. Jacksonville's UNF is half the size, but our metro dwarfs Stillwater's at around 1.3 Million. You'd think at least one of those 1.3 Million, folks could figure out how to write such a grant. I am a proud graduate of UNF, although I did have to clear up some parking ticket issues before they would actually give my the physical diploma. That school has undergone such dramatic change in the last ten years of course parking is a problem. Who cares though, caaw caaww!
