Title: Bay Street Town Center Phase 2 Moving Forward
Post by: Steve on December 26, 2008, 10:55:40 AM
From the Daily Record

• Speaking of the City, its Procurement Department is taking bids on a couple of Downtown projects. One is the Bay Street Town Center streetscape phase II while the other is renovations to the first and third floors of the Ed Ball Building.

What does Phase II involve?

Basically, the sidewalks that they put in on the northside of the street, they will be putting in on the southside.

Here's what I don't get.   We're going to do the sidewalks (which have BTW, 0 businesses that are open after 5), then we will build the courthouse someday, then assuming we are smart and RFP the site, we will demolish the existing courthouse and annex, and build something there.

What do you think demolishing and rebuilding will do to the concrete that was just laid down?

...and when you become mayor and we finally get the Skyway to the stadium? There goes all of the South Side of the Streetscape.

I'd rather see 10 years of signs saying "FUTURE SKYWAY ROUTE - PARDON OUR DUST!".

Ocklawaha, you should be Mayor.  You hit the nail right on the head.  Peyton's Administration, or whoever makes the decisions, doesn't have a tenth of a clue.

The sidewalks on the north end of Bay Street are terrible.  They are not only tacky but also too wide and without any parking included.  A FAR better solution would have been to make the sidewalks plain concrete with some planters with deciduous trees and add in as many diagonal parking spots as possible.  Add to that free parking for 2 hours and you then increase the chances for a successful retail/entertainment district.

However, knowing Peyton and his gang which cant shoot straight, we will likely end up with the same garbage on the south side of Bay which now exists on the north side of Bay.
