Title: Riverside Desperados Rob a Young Man at Gunpoint in Christmas Shift Stick Up
Post by: stephendare on December 26, 2008, 02:18:13 AM
Apparently a young riverside man was robbed at gunpoint at the corner of Goodwin and Riverside on Christmas Night.

The victim, a handsome young law student, was crossing the street when an old model white car squealed up, two young males jumped out brandishing the firearm.

At gunpoint, they seized his wallet, leaving him his I Phone (no criminal in his right mind wants a gps device in a getaway vehicle after all) jumped back into the car and squealed off.

You're kidding?  In Riverside? That sounds more like something that happens everyday in Springfield.. I hope the young man is okay... Are you sure it was Riverside and not springfield?

They say crime goes up during the holidays.

I wish it was me instead... after xmas present shopping and the awesome economy I have nothing to take but a folding peice of leather and some worthless plastic.

Any more details or description of the car/ thugs? I live a block from there and could keep my eyes peeled.

homophobic tufsu1?  Not to be on his side but I think Stephen is entitled to his opinion, and what he said I believe in no way was meant to offend anyone.

eh.  not much to go on description wise.  two young (early 20's probably) african american males.  driving an early to mid-90's chevy white four door.  i'm sure as soon as they got in the car they took off out of riverside.

understood. I was just poking fun at stephen's wording. Although, I'll be the first to admit he certainly is an excellent writer.

riverside ave is very easy for the thugs to go onto inter state 10 and to some trailer park along the way, although they might be living in some public housing....paid by your tax dollars.......

i'd rather pay for it with my tax dollars than have them living on the street.  my father lived in public housing as a child, and was able to go to college and pay for his kids to go to Bolles and Furman.

Oops.. my bad, I meant to say no black males live in Riverside?

What did they look like to not be living in Riverside? Is there a "look" for Riverside?

I cut myself to feeeeeeeeeeeel pain!!!!

The look of Riverside, at least when I was coming of age was that in order to fit in you had to simply be a non conformist. Which means all you had to do was dress & look exactly like the non conformist do and listen to the same exact music as them.

I don't really remember anyone talking much about being a 'nonconformist'.  Except of course for the mainstream conformists themselves.

Most of the Gothic or punk kids just liked the fashion itself.  Still do, in fact.

Just like there is an extreme minority of kids who like to nearly shave their heads, but wear suit and ties in the tropics and confess to nonexistent virginity whenever a similarly shorn clergyman is looking their way.

I know the conformist joke is an old boner, its been around since the beatniks circa 1950, and I bet it was around in the 1920s for the flappers and jazzkids, but having participated full heartedly in the alternative and progressive scene, I can't ever remember 'conformity' coming up except in jokes about being from the land of misfit toys.

We all have our tribes and styles I suppose. Travel taught me that.

Spoken like a true non conformist.

Lol.

I dunno, Im unconvinced that outside corporate cubicles and highschool that 'conformists' actually exist.

What is there to conform to anyways?

Its all on the inside, which is only symbolically visible.

Stephen,

Its been my experience that when someone uses theword conformist, just a shorthand way to diss someone whos lifestyle they don't like.

jokes people, just jokes. Nice debate though.

It was really just a quote straight from a south park episode.

We're all past high school now, the world isn't that black and white. (the conformist/nonconformist thing)

You do have those people that think if you're doing what you like, doing your own thing and if it isn't considered exactly "normal" they would say you're "trying" to be different though. When really like you said, we all have our own tribes we gravitate towards.

Some tribes just have more numbers than others.
