Quote$750 million no-bid contract has nine lives

Mayor John Peyton's administration is stubbornly continuing down a path that could cost taxpayers millions of dollars.

An administration official told me this week that Peyton still wants to award a lucrative landfill contract, perhaps worth as much as $750 million, to Waste Management, the current operator of the city's Trail Ridge Landfill, without opening the process to other bidders.

Pushing a no-bid contract on something worth that much is insane, especially since others in the garbage business say they could do the job for less money.

Typical Peyton good ol' boy politics. I hope we're ready for the next blonde boy wonder mayor.
