This is proposed in Council President Kevin Carrico's district. I'm curious to see how he votes on this if it ever gets to a full council vote.
Would love to see them target properties already zoned IL or IH. Would save them time and money, cut down on residential opposition and add jobs in an area where this type of use would be acceptable.
No one complained about Project Pan. Instead it got incentive money:

They should follow the precendent. It would be pretty cool for something like this to end up in some spot like the Rail Yard District with a small wholesale or retail component.
Definitely not the right location for a slaughterhouse. The rezoning application talks about 'screening from Beach Boulevard' but not from the homes immediately adjacent. I agree with Lake, this belongs in an industrial area.
Just fyi - if anyone watched the video from Action news and read the full report, it sounds like this is intended to be a halal slaughterhouse. It's not humane.
I'm not going to get into what's humane and what's not, but strictly dealing with it from a zoning and land use perspective, its an industrial use. So it should be in an appropriate zoned area with similar context.
The Zoning Code in Jax is a joke. The City Council overrides it for any just about any request it gets... probably 95 out of 100 times, easy. No backbone, can't ever hold any property owner to a standard set by planning. Everything is about "economic development," not general quality of life.
