I'll take that good news!
The forums are on fire!!!! All of the racist are coming out of the woodworks!!!! I thought it was 2008!! I can't believe some of the stuff I am reading on the internet!!! I mean its cool that he is black and all, but I don't think that is the reason he won. From what I could see, Republicans are just not that attractive right now, due to W. Bush. I have heard of sore losers but, this is sad. Its 2008, whats the big deal?
Al Gore lost and a lot of people were heated, but not as heated as the folks that didn't like Obama. I feel like the DeLorean just dropped me in Birmingham 1963!! Is this how people REALLY feel? Everyone must understand why the black community is happy. This is a big step for us as a race, hey I hope a Latino & Asian can eventually get in as well, but come on. After 43 of the same thing the 44th can't be different? Big ups to Joe Biden!
dont let it frighten you, coolyfelt. Its similar to conservative reaction against clintons (times a million). But the choice was made and the election was definitive. America wants change, the president elects campaign said so from day 1 (feb 2007) he never flipped on that message. on a racial perspective, a majority of whites voted for the pres elect than voted for mccain. A LOT MORE! and florida is blue!
Look America still has bigotry problems (amendment 2) but to complain about racism today???? I mean use your heads. There were legitimate political differences between the two candidates and that and a rebuke of Bush is what drove the vote! How about if we try to enjoy the victory and be half as gracious as McCain was last night. You can find nuts who blog radically on anything.

cooly - wanna take a wild guess what would've happened last night if the vote had been 52% to 48% in the OTHER direction? forget message boards and forums. think LA Riots of the past. think Chicago Riots of the past. think about those guys with nightsticks in front of the philly polling station. ALL THAT TIMES TWENTY AND MUCH MORE WIDESPREAD. and for really no other reason than their candidate had lost. maybe THIS was why God allowed Obama to win - to preserve our union a bit longer.

Wow, thats amazing! Can you and God forcast Saturday's lotto numbers for me!?
btw - world markets may have sky rocketed, but our market is tanking today.
what does THAT tell you?
I wouldn't know about the racist forums or blogs as I don't look at them. I can, however, tell you I am heated. I'm upset that throughout the entire year (so it seems) that was the campaign, potential voter after potential voter stating they were pro-Obama was interviewed and knew little to nothing about his position or agenda for our country. Instead, they focused on his race. It would be "momumental" if he were elected, tehy said. Well, of course. It would also have been monumental if Alan Keyes were to have been voted into office too, but he wasn't...he didn't have the money to market a campaign near what the REPs or DEMs have had or even come close to the money that Obama had backing him from all his celeb (and various other types) friends.
I hate to think this way but it's been proven time and time again; the majority of Americans are lemmings. They buy what they are told is the best and what they are told will make them feel good. They try to be better than others because someone somewhere told them that to have more, to own what they were told is better, to have more money, to have a title, is being someone. Put a pretty face with a lot of money and a lot of celebrity clout in front of those typical American lemmings and you have what happened last night. To quote one Obama voter when asked her reason for her vote, "...because when Obama is president gas will be free and I won't have to pay my mortgage payment." Little do these people know just how much life is going to change if Obama is able to put in action all of the plans his has stewing in his head. Ask the majority of Americans the definition of Socialism or Facism and they'll look at you crooked and give you a guess that might only touch on the true meaning, but in the next 4 years there is the very real potential they'll be living it.
On a positive note, I have faith in the productive men and women of our country that they will not stand for having their hard-earned money stripped away from them and handed to the individual having lived on welfare for the last 10 years with 6 kids and owning the latest cell phone, x-box game system and SUV. I have faith that these Americans will not stand for forced volunteerism or the government take-over of their local non-profit that they VOLUNTARILY contributed to their entire lives. I have faith that these Americans realize it is they who own this country and keep it running and without them the lights would not turn on, the gas would not pump and there would be no market to crash.
"You've forced yourselves to live with undeserved, irrational guilt. Is it ever proper to help another man? No, if he demands it as his right or as a duty that you owe him. Yes, if it's your own free choice based on your judgment of the value of that person and his struggle. This country wasn't built by men who sought handouts. In its brilliant youth, this country showed the rest of the world what greatness was possible to Man and what happiness is possible on Earth... The world will change when you are ready to pronounce this oath: I swear by my Life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine."

I get frustrated for the same reasons, pancake. But let me point out there were many lemmings voting Republican as well.
Exactly. I've felt the last 8 years has been the march of the Republican lemmings. It's nice to see we do have the ability to change direction. He still couldn't quite win all of Duval county though. Jax has always been and will continue to be fairly conservative, so at least conservatives & republicans will continue to have their oasis in Northeast Florida.
and many other red states LOL!!! ;)
Yea if you judge by territory, there's plenty of red to go around still!
Even living in Jax for so long has tamed me from my once far left stance to just left of center now.
I don't think Obama's magic, i'm just willing to give the man a chance. I'll be watching what he does carefully and it will determine which party I vote for next go around. I really do wish we had more than two serious options to vote for though. This election didn't feel to me like the lesser of two evils kinda deal, but the past 2 has & i'm sure the next one will as well.

What happend to the US market today? No rally????
NOPE...continuing down further...approaching down 500 points. US investors do not like what they see.
Driven 1, I believe you're right on target and I agree with you; maybe, just maybe the heart of the nation has changed towards God, and towards each other (fellow man); so maybe God is giving America more time.
Also, if mcCain had won, I truly believe anywhere from 1 to 2 months after he had been sworn in, the destroy America games and plots would begin, immediately. I am not saying this is why Americans voted for Obama; the best man won and the best man for ALL AMERICANS won. I am black and didn't vote for either Obama or McCain. But check this.......the rest of the world LOVES Obama; and the world was waiting to see whether they would give America and the new Black President more time to prove ourselves to the world again, or go on to terrorize and possibly destroy us if McCain had been picked; I truly believe we would have been in trouble if McCain had been elected; the world would have viewed it as the continuation of Bush's Presidency and Bush's policies.
I wish everyone, both blacks and whites, would just knock the race/racist thing off because the man (Obama) is for everyone, not just blacks. I wish the whites that have sour grapes and bitter juice in their mouths would just pull together with the rest of the nation and let's just be Americans; I wish thIe blacks would quit rubbing it in and be thankful that a good man and the best man was picked for all Americans, whether white, black, or polka dot.
Again, this is coming from a black man here; I didn't vote for either of them; but was pulling for Obama; not because he is black, but because I felt he was the best man for the job, and also I was praying that he (Obama) would win so the rest of the world wouldn't get angry at us and be hell bent towards our destruction and extermination. yeah, we may get attacked again anyway, but the feeling I get now is the rest of the world is pleased that it wasn't Bush...I mean McCain.
Heights Unknown ;)
heights - i like you. you make sound, unemotional arguments.
and i like Obama, believe it or not, as long as he doesn't have the opportunity to appoint any SCOTUS judges and he doesn't push through any new entitlement programs. beyond that, he can do what any other democrat would do (raise taxes, push the gay agenda, downsize the military, etc...) these are the items most important to me. we'll get through 4 years of the rest of the stuff.
BUT - the one disagreement that I have with your argument is that we should be basing OUR decisions on who OUR President is based upon what someone in Africa or Iran or Germany thinks. not that I think the majority of last night's voters used this as any kind of litmus test.
I'm not sure if the best man won last night (elections are always a popularity contest), but I do accept the choice of our nation.
The day after Obama's election, the stock market drops the most of any post-election day in US history. Down over 5% in one day. Not exactly a vote of confidence for Obama from the market.

Ah, now the stock market's erratic behavior is Obama's fault.
It's funny how a few weeks ago when it was dropping 800 points in a day it had nothing to do with him, but now.....yeah. Of course it does.

Tomorrow it'll be up 200 points.
Thursday, it'll be down 400 because Joe Biden says he likes transgender asian prostitutes.

Q: who are you voting for?
A: Obama
Q: What don't you like about McCain?
A: McCain seems to not really know what he's doing right now
Q: Are you more for Obama's policy because he's pro-life or because he thinks our troops should stay in Iraq and finish this war
A: I think because our troops should stay in Iraq and finish this war. I'm really for him with that, definitely.
Q: Now, how about as far as him being pro-life, do you support Obama in that case?
A: Yeah, I do. I support him in that case.
Q: If he wins would you have any problem with Sarah Palin being Vice-President?
A: No I wouldn't, not at all, not at all...
Q: You think you made the right choice in that?
A: I definitely do.
They could have made up anything and the people on this video would have believed it.
It amazes me how many people have the nerve to vote when they know nothing about the candidates (Dem. and Rep.)

That was really amusing and terrifying all at the same time. They could've done the same thing with conservative voters, though (besides that one dude at the end of the clip)
Perhaps there should be a basic voter comprehension test when you first step in the booth? A couple simple questions about the major candidates in the main race to make sure you're qualified? Like those basic questions they throw in some surveys for quality control or the words you have to retype when buying tickets to prove you're not a bot? And if you don't pass you don't vote...yeah?

Either one of two things will happen: SHe will come into some sort of wealth that will allow her to pay high gas prices AND pay her current mortgage payment without having to make cut-backs in various other aspects of her life, or somehow miraculously the price of gas will fall to such levels that it there will be no impact to her, and her mortgage payment will somehow be reduced or eliminated all together...I'm ruling out special programs like HOPE Now which offers modifications, since most mortgages are 30-year terms and a typical modification is a slight reduction in the interest rate and in rare cases the interest due is capatalized...and unless you're FHA this can only be done ONCE in the life of the loan which reduces a mortgage payment only minimally unless you purchased a home with an 18% rate which is highly unlikely given when most of these bad-loans were originated (2005-2007).
Maybe, this woman was confused and thought that it was Obama who touted the idea of reducing everyone's principle mortgage balance to the current market values, thus reducing the mortgage payment amount, and when the market "picks up" and the values increase, just allowing the borrower to keep the new-found 'equity'. Maybe, she was banking on getting a check from the Fed after they buy up her bad-mortgage relieving her of any responsibilty to pay her debt and putting money in her pocket to pay for that gas she was talking about. One may never know exactly to what she was referring, but I do know this, NONE of it is good.
Oh, I would also like to know how she is going to "help him"[Obama].

Dow down another 443 points today on reports from retailers.
And more government bailouts on the way... everyone has their hands out and no one knows where it will end.
It's not just people/companies with their hands out. When the TARP passed, it dictated that certain institutions "MUST" utilize a specified amount of the money whether it was warranted or not. Companies that were already in the works of mergers or buy-out talks that would allow them to recover from any issues they were having, were forced to take the money. Then when they accepted they were ridiculed by the media for having taken the money when they didn't need it. The whole thing is an absolute mess and an indicator of how more government is not the solution, but our greatest problem.
