Connecting Mayport and Fort George Island near the mouth of the St. Johns River, the St. Johns River Ferry opened to the public on September 15, 1950. Also known as the Mayport Ferry, the 0.9-mile voyage is a quick alternative that allows users to eliminate 28 driving miles between the coastal communities on either side of the river.
