Title: Will Jax apply for the Reconnecting Communities grant?

The new federal Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program offers cities funding for projects that restore neighborhoods split and disrupted by highways in the mid-20th century. These five projects from Jacksonville would be a perfect fit for the grant, but the city would have to move quickly to meet the October 13 deadline. Will Jacksonville apply – or will the city miss out on low hanging fruit?

I'm working on a Reconnecting Communities grant application for a project in Miami that is pretty strong. This is a pilot program, and frankly there's not that much money to be spread around. Projects like the Gulch in Atlanta are strong competition, and could easily take up large chunks of the available funding.

Three days left.

Unless someone's heard something, I assume this isn't happening?

^We heard from Matt Carlucci and others that the city was working on something. Whether they make the bid is another question.

I believe JTA and GW Jax are working on submitting an application related to the Emerald Trail.

Some updates:

The FY22 awards (https://www.transportation.gov/grants/reconnecting-communities/reconnecting-communities-fy22-awards) were announced back in February. If Jacksonville applied for anything it didn't get it. DeFuniak Springs and Tampa did win a total of $6 million.

FY23 applications (https://www.transportation.gov/grants/rcnprogram/FY23_NOFOamended1) were due in September. We don't know if the city applied for anything this time either.
