In the mid to late 60's, my Mom and I lived at 617 West Duval Street, and I had a Jewish Girlfriend that lived in some apartments (painted yellow) that were across from this Funeral Home, so, I remember when it was operable. LaVilla back in the day was "abuzz" with activity as all of the land was filled with houses, apartments, bars, clubs, movie theaters, stores, other type businesses, and even small neighborhood grocery stores. I wish they had not blocked off Ashley and Church Streets like they did. Don't know what they were thinking as they demolished/razed all of the houses in and around LaVilla anyway. But I don't think they will reverse that as there is now a business there; but I think the rest of LaVilla can be developed/re-developed with businesses, apartments, homes, etc.
Great story heights. Glad to see great reuse projects
It's a cool building. Sounds like he's actually developing a small hotel to me.

Lakelander (Lake) initiated the story; just expounded on it being that it was about my old childhood neighborhood. Gigging anywhere MusicMan?
