I recall a "Times Square Hardware" store facing University Blvd. West at St. Augustine Road along where the Publix store is now. Did that store carry that name from being relocated from this area called Times Square?
Yes, Times Square Hardware was once located here.
Good to finally know.
Grew up passing that store all the time and could never figure out how it got its name. It was surrounded by a dairy pasture. Finally, in the late 70's, it closed and was torn down, with the property joined with the pasture to be developed into a Skaggs-Albertsons drug-grocery store combo concept, a forerunner to the Walmarts and Targets of today.
As mentioned, the site was again eventually redeveloped with the demolition of the Alberston's (Skaggs had pulled out of their partnership) store to be replaced by a new Publix, relocating from its original location, cattycorner, where LA Fitness is now.
