RE: the Post-Civil War Cottage
According to the Property Appraiser, the land it is on is worth about $45,000, and the building is less than $500. Has the owner been approached about a sale? Surely, the Historical Society, or someone, could come up with $50K or $60K for it? The likely competing buyer would be the church next door, absent a developer buying up a bunch of properties to gentrify.

Jacksonville needs to take care of its history.

The church building next door is owned by Alsco, the uniform company across the street.

The siblings that currently own the 'Buffalo Soldier' house have been contacted by a couple of parties who have wished to acquire the property...  but unfortunately they don't seem to have a consensus on either selling the property, or maintaining it at this point (it has a red tag and is in danger of being demo'd).
