Ditto Zac! And...with Bay street hugging the river, IMO a huge proportion of the theme of all of this clustering should be seafood, the River, seafood eateries, entertainment, festivals, etc. Make Bay Street the main entertainment, restaurant, etc. thoroughfare and core for downtown Jacksonville; an extended Jacksonville Landing so to speak adding bars, retail, etc.
I've always wondered how much influence the team at The Jaxson has on the decision makers of the city. Sometimes these ideas and recommendations are implemented to perfection, other times the city does the complete opposite. Is anyone on the site looking to be o. The DDRB, run for council or have the ability to make these things happen? Are you having one on one conversations or is it something less? Wish more of the great ideas from the site became reality.
We win some, we lose some. Some of the initiatives we're more involved than the others. Overall, since this forum was established back in 2005, we've accomplished a ton. Successes include the Laura Street streetscape, getting a pedestrian bridge on the Fuller Warren, modifying Suntrust (VyStar) garage on Hogan and getting it activated with a food truck park, getting food truck legislation passed, saving the city from not collecting mobility fees, killing JTA's original BRT plan, killing the original JRTC plan, and getting additional Emerald Trail funding with the recent gas tax (while cutting the share that was originally proposed for the U2C). We've also had some success advising on a host of private development projects that are now underway.

Yeah, his city would be a black hole without MJ. I really with the FOB site could move toward a convention center. It seems like there are three conversations going on about the (where) the site should be and each is in a vacuum depending on the group. The jail site might be a good location, but the price is insane and not rational in any way. The shipyards site is too far away.
Wasn't Maxwell House talking about leaving? That could be a good spot for a convention center. Huge space and could save prime waterfront real estate for something that could get on the tax rolls.
No data to support this, but my seat-of-the-pants guess is losing Maxwell House would be greater economic Minus, than a convention center on its site would be a Plus.
I can see the City, including DIA and JTA, managing a cluster on Bay Street - but not the kind MetroJacksonville is talking about, or that polite people can say.
∆ Just add a street level coffee shop at MH and all will be ok in the world.
