Title: Homes, town houses planned along Powers Avenue
Post by: thelakelander on September 20, 2021, 09:08:11 AM
QuoteAbout 74.2 acres of Skinner property is slated for single-family and multifamily town house development along Powers Avenue.

The July 9, 2021, site plan shows that Lennar Homes LLC of Miami is the developer of the infill project.

The city enacted Ordinances 2021-0407 and 0408 on Sept. 14 to rezone the site and change the land use of the vacant property, which is across Powers Avenue from Samuel W. Wolfson School for Advanced Studies.

Plans show 130 single-family homes and 337 town houses.

Surprised to see them squeezing in single family houses.  Between the railroad, industrial/commercial neighbors, the high school across the road and the apartments, it wouldn't seem all that desirable for single family.  I guess if the prices are cheap enough, with the current housing shortage, they will manage to get them sold though.

I remember a time when this was mostly wooded or cow pasture.  Looks like the last of the area's land undeveloped.  Between their Town Center land holdings and this, it looks like the Skinner family is taking advantage of market conditions to mostly cash out after over 100 years.
