Rutherford clearly cannot step out of his own 'shoes' to see a different perspective. Historical perspective doesn't seem to move him either. Those are not things you want to see in a LEO. It's a really bad trait to have in a Congressman too. There are certainly better choices available but let's not kid ourselves that he will be replaced anytime soon.

Trump is the 21st century version of Hebert Hoover, a populous one-term president who happen to be in office when the Great Depression took hold of the country. Even MAGA is a direct rip-off of Hoover's "Chicken in every Pot". You folks really overestimate how much history will look back at Trump.

^Rutherford's insurrection was his vote not to certify the electoral votes from states. In addition to being based on demonstrated lies, it's unconstitutional and not something Congress is authorized to do. That action is a worse insurrection than the actual insurrection it helped inspire.

Most of the House Republicans joined in the unconstitutional action. If they were in the majority they could have disrupted the entire election. Not to mention the fact that it spread lies that led a crowd of their followers to storm the capitol. It's a very scary precedent, especially coming from someone like Rutherford who used to have a reputation as a law and order guy. If anything, it's been underplayed.
Rutherford voted against the 2 infrastructure bills that would have provided up to $550 billion to fight climate change and build resiliency even though 55% of 229 critical structures in his district are at risk of rising seas. You know if Trump, instead of Biden, had proposed the same bills he would have likely voted for them. Putting politics over his district?

You would think a former sheriff would support a VERY minimal standard for regulating who gets guns that was proposed on a bipartisan basis.

I just checked: he'll need five years of service to get the full pension after his 62 birthday.
