Title: Congressman Al Lawson reportedly involved in U.S. Capitol floor altercation
Post by: thelakelander on January 07, 2021, 07:46:35 PM
QuoteTallahassee Congressman Al Lawson was among a group of House Democrats who faced off against Republicans early Thursday as lawmakers got into a shouting match after remarks by Pennsylvania Democrat Conor Lamb, according to news reports.

Lamb had just delivered remarks critical about their role in Wednesday's riot and Capitol takeover by President Donald Trump loyalists in which four people died and 52 were arrested.

"We know that attack today, it didn't materialize out of nowhere, it was inspired by lies – the same lies that you're hearing in this room tonight," Lamb said in part, moments before the near-fight on the floor.

Known as "Big Al" around the Florida Capitol during his nearly three decades of service in the Legislature, the 6-foot-7 Lawson rallied with other Democrats who moved to form a defensive front for  Lamb, a conservative Democrat.
