Interesting history.
Is the "Buck" in the family the same as in Buck and Buck realty, that developed parts of Arlington?

Great story and family history.

Seems people were more aware of environmental risks a hundred plus years ago than today given that the height of the building's main floor probably exceeds almost everything around it built since then.  Examples like this make me think our ancestors may have been smarter than their descendants in many (most?) instances  8).
