QuoteJacksonville chefs Matthew and David Medure are permanently closing their M Shack Riverside location after dinner service Saturday night to make way for another restaurant.
The restaurateurs announced the closing Wednesday morning to the staff. The decision comes a just few weeks after they temporarily closed the restaurant at 1012 Margaret St. to reboot its menu and service.
Another Broken Egg Cafe — a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant — is expected to move into the M Shack space, according to a M Shack spokesman.

Lord knows we could use some breakfast around here.
That said -- I'm puzzled as to why a concept that says "diner" all over it would land not in the always iconic and newly vacant Derby location but just around the corner in a recently renovated but kinda blah shopping center plaza. Does anyone have the scoop? Or maybe some rumors and conjecture? ;)

We have some bittersweet news to share. Shortly after rebooting the Riverside M Shack location, we got a call from our landlord with an offer from someone who wanted our space. It was a really good offer, and after giving it a lot of thought, we decided selling the M Shack Riverside location was winner for everyone.
The new tenant is very enthusiastic about this particular location and it's a perfect fit for Riverside. With our newest restaurant, Midtown Table, so close to opening we felt like this opportunity was all simply perfect timing.
So...in working with the new tenant's timeline, our last day of service will be Saturday, December 7. The M Shack brand is doing great and this doesn't effect any other locations. So this isn't good-bye...in fact, it's quite literally see you down the road!
The Riverside wanted to do something to celebrate our customers, so we want to invite you to help us empty the kegs! All drafts will be $3 until they're gone or until the shop closes, whichever comes first. So stop by and see us at Riverside for a burger and a beer - and then feed your future M Burger cravings at Town Center, Nocatee or our original M Shack store in Atlantic Beach!
I suspect there is more to the story. The "reboot" was goofy IMO.
The wording is weird. Their "landlord" got a good offer, but then they decided to "sell" the location. How can you sell it if you don't own the building?
Sell the remainder of their lease?

My guess is the lack of parking at the Derby location would be a major issue for Another Broken Egg.
What is midtown table? This is the first I'm hearing of it.
Another Broken Egg? That's good news.
As soon as M Shack opened I suspected the place would not be resilient, or should not be. Poor value. Needed better open air bar.
Overpriced stuff in a paper basket.
Fox, Biscottis, Brick, Bluefish are common denominators, and when applied, M Shack just did not seem resilient.

Anyone who likes the Brick loses all credibility in my book.
I am still just eager to find out who will move into the South Kitchen space.

Well, Partners was an all time favorite but the Brick is credibly likeable.

What's wrong with The Brick? Fairly mediocre but no more so than The Fox, Bluefish or Biscottis. Okay food with okay service. Nothing to write home about but.... none of them are.
No doubt the Best Meals are at Home.
Brick has returned Spring Rolls to the menu. Probably just pre prepared frozen heated up, or did I hear made on site.....whatever, it does not matter if you think about it, or even if you don't.
During the Mellow Mushroom Substantial Rezone process, some surmised the Brick owner opposition to MM Proposal was no doubt to concerns over " competition".
That obviously did not happen, initial MM Proposal scaled back to the benefit of All...... Brick draft beer selection about 2% of what is lined up at MM.
I like to seat at the Brick bar.....hang out with fellow neighborhood Puds, bar seating often full, so if some prefer to avoid, just as well.
Folks take a stand according to where they sit.
