Title: ?Lunch in San Marco?
Post by: jaxlore on October 24, 2008, 01:14:57 PM
Ok folks lately eating lunch has either gotten expensive or just damn boring. I am vegetarian, who is also staying away from saturated fats and cholestrol (fun right?). So each day we try and figure out what to eat Here are some of my favorites and worsts(this is just my opinion so please add yours)

Best

Basil Thai
- Great but i wish it was a few bucks cheapers
Tidibits
-Great fresh salads and sandwichs, just gets old after 100 times.
Firehouse
-Similarly fresh salad
BBs
- Good food pricey and loud
Panera
-Tastee, but wish there salads had a little more substance.
La Napolero
- Veggie Fajitas, I I leave off the cheese and shells and pretend it organic, lalala i cant hear you...
Metro Diner
-Just tried this the other day, they rocked, but its pretty crowded and parking is a killer. But damn that cappuccino was good!

Not so Best
Moe's
-They have tofu on the menu but this place does not feel clean by a long shot.
Tropical Smoothie
-Too damn expensive for the tiny little serving they give you (the outdoor dining is nice)
Quizno's
-QUizsucks if you ask me time and time again I am disappointed by the most expensive sandwich in town.

Ugh, Quiznos, I refuse to eat there after seeing those singing dead rat commercials, or whatever that thing was a few years back.

You left out one of the best restaurants in town.

European Street in San Marco. They have quite a few vegetarian sandwiches and wraps and the menu is large enough for you to try several different things Im sure.

My significant other is a vegetarian and he works there. He tends to order the Riviera Wrap often as well as a few other new dishes.

Off topic but why do vegetarians often look so unhealthy?  Are they not getting enough protein?

HAHAHA, what vegetarians are you hanging out with? I could easily respond with why do most non-vegetarians look so unhealthy?

Getting enough protein is quite easy, most americans actually consume to much protein.

What is so funny?  I never said there were not unhealthy meat eaters.   :D

Maybe I have met too many vegetarians who think meat is bad but smoking multiple clove cigarettes while mutilating their bodies with piercings and tattoos is ok.  I am not trying to start an argument but those have been the only vegetarians I have met.  I am sure there are more healthy ones somewhere.

BTW, you are missing out on some of the best worldly things the earth has to offer - good traditional foods with meats.

Well you did do a good job of summing up most of the vegetarians around Riverside. Tattoos and piercings, I myself am guilty as charged.

I actually did grow up in a home where it was usually meet and potatoes or some German or Polish inspired cuisine, so I did partake in some traditional food when I was younger. As I got older I eduacted myself and became a vegetarian.

Florida is very behind on embracing healthier food choices. Whenever I go to California or NY I always find a vergetarian/vegan restaurant with ease.

European Street and other establishments that serve Vegetarian fare should let the resident Employee Vegetarians(consultants) experiment with different tastes/ingrediants and sauces to give some ordinary menu items some new "BAM!".  Also rotate favorites seasonally as certain produce comes around. and...aren't there some pescatarians?(Fish eaters? correct me if I'm wrong) and some fringe Vegans to serve... I also understand that there are a lot of "Northern/warm/baked/vegan" recipes that aren't real popular in the south but are satisfying. (I'm thinkin' warm baked acorn squash with fresh maple syrup! spoon it out!)  ;D

i always forget about European Street! Because i tend to frequent the riverside location in my off hours.
must be the vegetarian diet, dulls mental activity and makes me look funny ;)
i actually dropped about 30 lbs between hardcore dieting(no cheese or flour for me) and bike riding to work every day...my breakfast was unfortunately yogurt with protein powder had a nice paper mache flavor too it.
