Have always wondered about Cecil's potential as an air cargo hub.

Amazon could soon bring 800 to 1,000 jobs to Polk County.
The company has plans to open a cargo handling facility at Lakeland Linder International Airport. On Monday, city commissioners will vote whether to approve the project.
If the city clears it, construction is scheduled to begin on July 3 and be completed about a year later. The city of Lakeland says the cargo hub will be Amazon's largest facility in the southeast United States.

I wonder if Jax was ever in play for something like this? Seems like it could happen

Doubt it. Lakeland is right in the middle of Orlando and Tampa and already has a huge Amazon presence.
That rent seems really low considering the expenses the City will have to incure. After all is said and done Lakeland will probably lose money on the deal.

Because employing 1,000 people will result in no new tax revenue...
QuoteLakeland Linder has a $574 million economic impact on the community. And, Conrad said, the Amazon project will bring that to an annual impact of more than $1 billion.

I'm not sure the'll lose money

The airport will receive $80,651 a month in rent payments on the original 47 acres. Amazon will also pay landing fees of 85 cents per 1,000 pounds of cargo and fuel pump fees with a 3-cent surcharge on each gallon of fuel, McCausland said.
If Amazon expands onto the adjoining 62 acres, the airport will need to make an additional $25 million in improvements and the rent will be adjusted, McCausland said.
The Price/SqFt works out to be $3.51 on the buildings. It would take a while to calculate out the landing fees and fuel surcharge to see how much that nets.
This is good for Lakeland. Given that I'm down there once a month for work I'm happy for them.

I'm not sure but it's a safe bet that those people spend their income on something taxable.
Gotta love the economics of globalism - giving Amazon credit for someone elses tax payment. Let me ask, when you buy something do you consider your employer to be the one paying the sales tax?

KHAAAAN!

I wonder if Amazon could make a profit without all the government handouts. This is just another magic bullet fired out of a different gun.
Read Kerry quotes while looking at Jaden Smith pics. It works.

I do take into account that the money I spend - on goods, services and taxes - was earned doing work for my employer. If, at any point, my employer transfers me to their office in Philadelphia or San Francisco then I think you could attribute any taxes I pay in those municipalities to the decision of my employer to move my position there.
Anyone know of where Amazon facilities are and how large they are? Jacksonville has a few and if they're as big or bigger than others it could make a lot of sense for Amazon.
Question ---> What sort of agreement(s) exist for Cecil? Who actually owns it? Is there anything that would prevent this sort of thing?
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) owns the Cecil Airport, south of Normandy Boulevard. The City of Jacksonville owns the Commerce Center, north of Normandy Boulevard, except for the parcels they have sold to various companies that have facilities there (like Bridgestone).
The JAA also owns 3 other airports: JIA, Herlong Recreational (just up the road from Cecil), and Jax Executive at Craig (Arlington)
Lakeland is the closest major city to Florida's mean population center which is outside of Lake Wales. This means they are the closest to the most number of people in the shortest amount of time which supports their 1 and 2 day shipping services.
