Title: Daily Record Building Sold to Scott McCallister
Post by: Steve on April 24, 2019, 11:00:33 AM
For those that don't know, McCallister owns a few nightlife places such as Loft/Rogue and The Garage on King St in Riverside. Not illogical to think that he's interested in some sort of nightlife concept at this corner. Could be a really cool spot for it.

Daily Record moving to the 121 Atlantic Place building in 2020:

That's cool, hopefully they do some renovations and open the storefronts back up.  Does anyone know if the parking lot on the corner goes with the building?  It would really cool if something was built there, it's always seemed like an awkward hole and less than ideal for parking.

I believe historically it was a narrow building fronting Newnan St.

Both the lot and building are owned by the Daily Record/Bailey so it's logical to think it's included. Could be cool outdoor dining/drinking space.

I think everybody knows roughly what the bottom floor will be.  I'm curious to see what he does with the upper floors.  Traditionally I've been a big fan of his, but I wish he would have left a bit more of the deli's vibe in Whiteway rather than giving it his traditional rustic treatment.

I like their current location, but 121 Atlantic Place should be nice.

Even if they're no longer occupying their own buildings, it's cool to see the Daily Record, T-U, and JBJ all clustered so closely together in the CBD.

The parking lot is included. The first floor features pretty high ceilings, so it would be ideal for a McCallister-esque restaurant/bar space. An opening could be made along the exterior wall along Bay Street to create an outdoor seating area in that parking lot. I'd be surprised if converting a portion of that parking lot into an outdoor seating area wasn't already the plan.

BTW, Scott wasn't the only party interested in that building. Congrats to him!
