Title: Learning from.... Bradenton
Post by: Captain Zissou on September 04, 2018, 02:24:27 PM
This past weekend I was in Bradenton and was straight up shocked to see how much better their riverwalk was than ours. It's a little over a mile, but in terms of landscaping, active uses beyond just walking/jogging, cleanliness, traffic, linking destinations, it beat Jax all over the place.  It starts in downtown and is anchored by the Manatee county library and the south Florida museum as well as a couple restaurants.  From there it goes east along the Manatee River past volleyball courts, children's playgrounds, fitness parks, an amphitheater, a skate-park, a bioswale, beach areas, green space where a boot-camp was taking place.  Where there were private condo buildings there were fences that prevented public access, but the riverwalk was still at least 12 feet wide and there was a 20 ft + landscape buffer.  There is no reason that Bradenton should have more amenities on their riverwalk than Jax.  The addition of the fitness equipment under the Acosta is a start, but we can do much better.
