Charles Bennett made an incredibly good suggestion that Jacksonville University become part of the State University System; Swisher declined to pursue that possibility. If accepted, that would have been a phenomenally good thing for the city. Quite a missed opportunity; so was the inability to establish a medical school here.
Most amazing tidbit from that 1964 piece, and tangentially related to your Woodstock Park post, was the stunning disparity between Duval County and Pinellas County on taxes.
