Title: Furniture Store Taking over MOCA Gift Shop
Post by: KenFSU on June 30, 2018, 06:20:17 PM
QuoteMOCA Shop will close, become a Generation Us

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville will close its MOCA Shop July 14. The space will then become a second location for Generation Us, whose first location in Five Points sells classic contemporary furnishings and accessories.

MOCA Jacksonville director Caitlin Doherty said the decision resulted from MOCA's commitment to supporting downtown revitalization by bringing in "a destination retail store to bring more people downtown."

Generation Us is owned by Troy Spurlin, who also owns Troy Spurlin Interiors, a full service interior design firm located on Riverside Avenue. Spurlin worked as MOCA's director of marketing and special events from 2004 to 2007. Items in the MOCA Shop will be marked down up to 50 percent through July 14.

I think this is a big win for everyone involved. MOCA will have another steady stream of revenue and downtown will have another business.

Again I say, I'm sure there's a negative here somewhere but I'm not seeing it. Maybe the negative is that it's unlikely a furniture store will be open until 2AM?

In all seriousness, this is great to hear.
