QuoteA trip to an NFL stadium to watch a pro football game is no small undertaking these days. It's a major investment in time and especially money, though it's an investment that millions of Americans are all too happy to make over and over again.
Last month we set out to gauge just how happy the paying customer -- you -- are with your local NFL product. What are you getting in return for your patronage? We asked readers to complete an extensive online survey ranking their hometown NFL stadium in everything from ticket prices to hospitality to the product on the field -- winning matters, after all. Nearly a third of the surveys submitted came from season-ticket holders, and the average number of games attended per season by all respondents was 3.23, so suffice it to say that those who took the time to participate are die-hards.
The rankings below are based solely on your answers. They measure the level of satisfaction each fan base has with its home stadium as well as its team's year-to-year success.
The winner, for the second consecutive season, was Green Bay's Lambeau Field, which scored in the top five in each of the five categories. (All five categories were weighed equally in coming up with the overall rankings.) Pittsburgh's Heinz Field placed second with Denver's Invesco Field coming in third.
We also included a few extras in the survey that did not factor into the rankings: Information from the annual Team Marketing Report on each team (the average ticket costs $72.20, with the New England Patriots charging the most and the Buffalo Bills the least); also, readers submitted their favorite moments from home games as well as the worst examples of fan abuse they have witnessed (hint: many of them involve infamous Raiders fans) and voted on their favorite player; finally, readers voted on their favorite other stadiums to visit, with the winner again being Lambeau Field and the runner-up Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium. Apparently, warm weather is not a priority among football fans. Last place? Giants Stadium.
I saw that article today...somewhat surprising, but then again, I don't have many complaints about the stadium, ticket prices, or really anything else about the facilities. Now if only the stadium had a cool sponsored name... ::)
yes, i went to giants stadium once in the 90's. its junk compared to jax stadium. simply because of technology
involved, the newer stadiums are the better ones, when jax entered the nfl, our stadium was the best. umm, i
like jax municipal stadium, i dont miss a corporate sponsor for our stadium. im sure the new giants stadium will
be the best next year (even if it is in new jersey!)
I don't know, I think Jerry Jones would argue that one...
Night games in Jax have always been electric. I'd put a Monday Night Football game up against Florida/Georgia or the Gator Bowl.
- On a side note, has anyone heard about the prospect of Notre Dame & Navy playing in Jax Municipal anytime soon? I caught the tail end on sports talk radio last week & never heard anything definitive.
We happened to have the best traffic to and from a football games in all the NFL (to God be all the glory for that :D 8)).
We were ranked 12th in last year's version...

For this year, they combined value and food into one and eliminated the "neighborhood" category.
Quoting from our neighborhood breakdown from last year:
"It's a downtown area that is going through a major transition." "The neighborhood is, for the most part, and industrial area" "with some shipyards." North of the stadium is "a lower-income area with residential homes," "but it is safe." In the more immediate vicinity are "a minor league baseball stadium, an arena and" "two very nice parks." East of the facility is the St. John's River and "within a mile" is the "beautiful River Walk area" and all of its nightlife. Though the neighborhood "still looks run down," to many, the "money pouring into the community from developers" has "vastly improved things over the last 10 years."
ANYONE that has a MAJOR beef wit' JMS IMO is an idiot that knows NOTHING about pro sports stadiums; A minor beef is fine; Major one is unbelievable, and very petty IMO. At thirteen, fourteen or whatever years, JMS is still a very very adaquate stadium for the NFL, and is probably ahead of some NEWER stadiums like Heinz Field(BTW PIT fans complain about it) for example. Not the mention the waterway access! (take that Charlotte). ;D :) ;D
That is great news! I have only been to a few games but I really enjoyed them. :o

That fairly accurate. Eastside is low income, but safe. I wouldn't say downtown looks rundown though.

Monday Night VS FL/GA is about a tie, but if FL/GA went to a night game instead of the 3pm 4pm time they normally play, the GA/FL game would trump any monday night game in the league, probably even beat a Cowboys/Steelers monday nighter!! If Jax pushed for a later kickoff the businesses would actually make more money.
As far as a dislikes for the stadium. I hate the angle. It would have been better if the endzones were East - West instead of North-South. The views are bad all you can see is the Mathews and Hart Bridges, If the angle was East-West you would see Mathews, Main Street & Hart Bridges PLUS BOA, Modis, AT&T etc, you would actually see the city skyline. The Ballpark is facing the wrong way as well lol. Home plate should be where the steel bleachers are. I don't know how they missed those details.
Great points Cooly. I've wondered the same on the directions of the ballpark and stadium.
Uh...If the field was east-west then the sun would almost always be in the players eyes.
What is the worst incident you have witnessed against an opposing fan or yourself at the ballpark?
# "An intoxicated man jumped from five rows above us and landed on my wife."
# "Somebody hit a Raiders fan with a car ... I clapped."
# "I saw a little girl, about 10, get put in a trash can because she was wearing a Giant's jersey."
# "After a loss, a fan of the opposing team went to shake the hand of a Ravens fan. The Ravens fan turned and farted on the guys hand. I personally thought it was hilarious. But I guess if you're the guy who just had his hand farted on, it might be kind of messed up."
# "I'll never forget when the Steelers were in town, and as we all know, the Steelers have a huge contingent. This was just a group of four Steelers fans, one fan was an elderly Steelers fan waving her Terrible Towel to this group of Ravens fans. It was funny, until all of the sudden one Raven fan took the old lady's towel and started stomping it on the ground and threw it on top of their grill, took it out with tongs and proceeded to urinate on it to put out the fire. The worst and grossest, and probably one of the funniest, things I have ever seen."
