Title: Harvey Transplants?
Post by: remc86007 on August 29, 2017, 03:36:34 PM
I know Katrina was a different animal, New Orleans is very different than Houston, and New Orleans is closer to Jax than Houston, but I imagine we will be getting at least a few transplants given the generally low cost of living and availability of work. I remember seeing somewhere that about 3,000 came to Jax as a result of Katrina. Anybody have any guesses as to what the Harvey number will be? I imagine a more accurate guess will be able to be made in a couple weeks when we know what the long term damage was. I certainly wouldn't wish such an experience on anybody.

Maybe JJ Watt is looking for a new home...

Possibility.  I think we have been seeing steady move of Texans to this area already. I know in my subdivision of only 96 homes in the last two years there have been 4 houses purchased by people moving here from Texas.  Never go out with seeing at least one car with Texas license plates.

I think we will see more than 3,000 people transplant here. As stated earlier in this thread, the availability of work is here. Both states are no income tax states. Also, they are already use to living in a sprawling MSA.

If this is true, I am glad I have my lease signed already because the price surely just went up!  :o
