Jacksonville Jaguars President Mark Lamping said Friday a late July cross-country trip with Mayor Lenny Curry and Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa focused on one developer - The Cordish Companies.
Lamping said the Baltimore, Maryland-based company has "world-class expertise" in development around sports facilities.
"They're one of the developers that are interested in helping us," Lamping said.
The journey made stops in Kansas City, St. Louis and Baltimore, all places where Cordish has completed projects.
According to its website, Cordish has several projects that incorporate a professional or minor league sports complex into an entertainment district.
Those include Ball Park Village outside of Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the Power and Light District by the Sprint Center in Kansas City, and development in Baltimore's Inner Harbor near M&T Bank Stadium, home to the NFL Ravens.
"This was a trip about how do you come up with a development that integrates very seamlessly in what would be called a sports neighborhood," Lamping said.

Jags flew them right? I'm happy with this...would be very pleased with something similar to those others (don't really know the KC example...received a quick driving tour but didn't spend any time there)
Would like to see the ethics waiver form the mayor filled out to authorize the trip. Doesn't the GC have to approve them?
Also, the "wrapped up in endless political debate" is a healthy thought, but can also be misinterpreted to mean no public input.
I like the action, just make sure it is balanced with adequate amounts of input regardless of political stripe. It goes both ways.
Just looked over the Cordish Companies website. I really like the look of many of their projects. I really dont have a problem with the mayor going to see these places in person. It is going to take a lot of effort to make the shipyards happen. The mayor should have the chance to experience the vision that Khan and Lamping are pursuing.

Do we really want to waste a staffer's time making a predated ethics waiver?
Disclosure aside, Curry isn't the first mayor to make such a trip or express interest in working with Cordish. Peyton and the Chamber of Commerce took a three-day trip to Kansas City back in 2009 to see Cordish's Power & Light District and walked away impressed.

We should let them redevelop the landing
They should do their own thing and Sleiman should do his with the Landing.

Small Shipyards update from Lamping, via the Daily Record:

Quote"I wish there was something of substance to announce," said Lamping about the Shipyards. "There's a lot of behind-the-scenes work going on. There's just not a lot, definitively, that would make sense to share at this point."
Lamping said any final deal will consider the needs of the community and local government.
An update likely will come next year with the announcement of a framework for an economic development agreement with the city, he said.
Khan's Iguana Investments of Florida was awarded the development rights in April and has about a year to come to terms with the city.
"The one thing Shad wants to do, though, is he really wants to see a lot of activity happening at the same time," Lamping said. "That's harder to do."
In the meantime, Lamping said Iguana is meeting with four groups of urban planners and architects to review and provide suggestions on the current set of ideas, although he declined to name the people involved. At least one is international.
"It could end up being a little bit of a competition and we don't like the idea of calling out people that might not prevail in that process," he said.
In July, Lamping, Khan, Mayor Lenny Curry and Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa took a brief trip to scout cities with large mixed-use complexes outside of sports stadiums.
All were built by Baltimore, Maryland-based The Cordish Companies, who Lamping said has "world-class experience."
"Any city that's looking to do a development that has sports at its core should certainly talk to Cordish," he said.
Curry took some criticism for flying on Khan's private aircraft.
Lamping said there are no plans for another trip, but that he would like to show the mayor other developments when the team travels for games at Pittsburgh and other cities.
Good to see Jacksonville made the list of cities being considered in the pending USA/Mexico/Canada 2026 World Cup bid. I would say we are longshots on this list, but any development of the shipyards completed or pending when this decision is made would be to our favor.
