Title: Nevada declares a pot emergency
Post by: spuwho on July 11, 2017, 12:43:53 AM
LOL. Nevada governor is in a panic because the supply of pot cant meet demand in his state.  Sympathy for potheads who cant grab a hit? Hardly, Nevada taxes pot sales to meet a budget shortfall in the state education budget.

Solution? Allow liquor stores to sell pot.  Liquor store lobby is furious they are being excluded from the cha-ching.

Nevada declares a dope emergency

Nevada marijuana sales strain supply, prompting 'emergency' regulations

The US state of Nevada is running out of weed. And its governor is so concerned he has just endorsed a state of emergency.

The Nevada Tax Commission is concerned many stores legally selling recreational marijuana are running critically low on stock.

Nevada voted to legalise recreational marijuana in November last year. Sales began on July 1 — immediately hitting a US$3 million high.

Little more than a week later, the dope's dried up.

The tax office has issued a press statement saying it is considering emergency regulations, to be implemented later this week, to provide a streamlined flow of the drug to retailers.

And the state's governor has endorsed the move.

"Based on reports of adult-use marijuana sales already far exceeding the industry's expectations at the state's 47 licensed retail marijuana stores, and the reality that many stores are running out of inventory, the Department must address the lack of distributors immediately," the statement said. "Some establishments report the need for delivery within the next several days."

To help ease the critical under-supply, the commission says it will allow liquor stores to expand into the marijuana business.

The distribution crisis, however, has been caused by a legal spat brought about by Nevada's liquor industry. It wants a cut of the trade.

The tax authority says most of the luiqour traders who have applied for a distribution licence have failed to meet legislated requirements.

The issue has gone before the state's highest court.

So why is Nevada's governor so concerned?

Cash.

"Unless the issue with distributor licensing is resolved quickly, the inability to deliver product to retail stores will result in many of these people losing their jobs and will bring this nascent market to a grinding halt. A halt in this market will lead to a hole in the state's school budget," the department said in its statement.

Nevada and Afghanistan have similar climates / terrain, right?

Why not start up some poppy fields and open up some opium dens like they had back in the wild west days.

Too bad due to Federal illegality of the industry interstate trade of this in demand commodity is forbidden. I'm sure California has a surplus.
