Title: Jax Daily Record
Post by: remc86007 on June 21, 2017, 02:16:50 PM
The Daily Record site has been redesigned. I think it has potential, but I currently much prefer the old design. I can't quickly see what new articles have been posted since last time I checked. The previous chronological list wasn't attractive, but it was very functional. As a side note, I noticed that they added commenting and a new type of monetization.

Check it out: http://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/

There's a few things in terms of story priority they need to work out. I'll assume at this point that they will.

But, the first thing I noticed was the load speed...it's REALLY slow.

Yeah, hopefully they can work it out. Today, beyond just being slow to load, some images were not rendering properly for me (even though they did yesterday). Also, it would be nice if it wouldn't show the "Welcome to our new website" banner to the same device more than once.

I loved the speed, simplicity, and functionality of the previous website.

Seems to be loading quickly now.  And my first impression was more of recognition.  I've sat in that meeting room from the picture of their lead story.  I'm the senior technician for that data center they mentioned on the second floor in the article.

Reminds me a lot of the bizjournals homepage now.

Love the Daily Record, but man is the redesign bad.

I constantly miss stories because they just don't show up where you'd expect them to.

THIS X 1000

If they could just put a link that shows stories in the order they were published that would solve 90% of it.

^Yep, and on top of that, the design is way worse from a usability standpoint than the previous website. There is a huge amount of wasted space and the pictures are obnoxiously large. I'd much rather see the title followed by some text than a huge picture icon that is often just a bunch of people I barely recognize in suits.

I used to check the Daily Record every day at lunch. Now, I only bother to every couple days in the hopes that enough of the icons on the front page have changed to stories I haven't read.

Amen and Amen to this.  Daily Record is a UI disaster with the recent changes...in my opinion.
