The 5 Points Theatre is excited to invite Metro Jacksonville readers to come see a free movie with us this Thursday!
Join us at 6 pm for "Casablanca", or at 9pm, when we wil be putting our new sound system to the test, with a yet to be determined favorite!
Our concession stand will be up and running with the usual movie theater favorites, as well as fresh baked goodies, beer and wine!
If you can't make it Thursday, watch this board, or the marquee, for first run movie times starting this Friday, October 10th!

Wow! This is amazing. What the hell is this about?
Im going to be there, but what is the opening about? Who owns it, what is it going to specialize in? What are the hours?
Great development for Five Points!
Does this mean that you didn't know about this ahed of time Stephen ;)
Great news for Riverside.
I doubt riff raff would want to see Casablanca (one of the best movies of all time BTW). Hopefully the owners will be as selective with their first run movie choices in order to bring in a well behaved crowd.
UPDATE: Our 9 pm movie will be "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
Is the 9 PM movie free as well?
Another Update:
Tonight we'll begin regular movie service, with "Ghost Town" at 7:00 pm and "Batman: The Dark Knight" at 9:30 pm.
I am in St. Louis this week but I will check you guys out soon.
We went to see Ghost Town at the 5 Points Theater last night and enjoyed it, there were 7 of us and 2 couples.
We were disappointed that the balcony is closed off and all of the seating is to the sides of the screen, no middle seats.
Its still nice to have a theater back in the neighborhood though
do you have a website, 5 Points?

Thanks for posting the website RoadKing.
This week (and until October 29th) we have
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
at 6 pm, 8 pm, and 10 pm
with a 4 pm matinee on Saturday and Sunday.
Thursday, October 30th at 6 pm we'll be hosting a benefit
for the Riverkeeper and showing a new film about the river.
Starting October 31st, we'll have Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
As always, we've got full concessions (now including Nacho Chips!),
plus 6 draft beers and a nice wine selection.
Also, I forgot to thank Jacksonville Confidential for your comments.
We would like to re-open the balcony, but it's kind of tricky because the railing was replaced when the place was converted into a nightclub. The new railing is too high to allow seats up there. We can't re-do the original railing because of code issues. We'll probably have to go back with a glass railing, which is kind of pricey.
That would be awesome. The balcony situation wont deter me from patronizing the theater though and I cant wait to see Nick and Noras infinite playlist.
Steven,
The problem is that the current code calls for a railing height higher than you can see over while seated.
Also, the railing has to be fairly solid so a baby can't slip through and plummet to its doom.
I would bet that the railing on the Florida Theatre balcony would not meet current code, but it's OK because it's been there all this time.
Thus we end up thinking about a glass railing or something like that.
My gf & I stopped in for "Infinite playlist" last Saturday. More comfortable then the San Marco theatre IMO and an overall good time. Only thing I could recommend would be to lightened up on the A/C - it was freezing in there.
haha same here! I saw the same movie there on Sunday night. It went from comfortable to frigid in just a matter of a few minutes. That monster a/c unit they've got really does the job. It seems like it's geared more for the sold out, sweating, packed crowds of the former club 5 days than a quite movie theater.
We could've really used that a/c during a deftones show back in 2000, I couldn't breathe!
Oh yea, that is another thing that will take some getting used to. All of those memories from loud concerts & late night partying floods my mind when entering the old theater. It was hard to focus on Nick & Nora's dialogue because I kept having flashbacks of the genitortures gruesome antics from Saturday night seduction :D

I was at that show! It was a boiler for sure!! I blacked out during "7 words".. it was still one of the
best shows ever though!
Will you be showing 'The Year of Getting to Know Us' soon?http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0924134/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0924134/)
I really hope everyone comes out to support this theater. My girlfriend and I have been there two of the past three weeks, and we love it. It is a great asset to have in Riverside. Also nothing beats being able to go out on a night to a dinner and a movie, without ever getting in a car!
We appreciate the feedback! For some reason, movie theaters are always freezing. I'll talk to the staff about the AC - it is still the same system that was used in the Club 5 days (except we did some modifications to make it quieter).
We're very excited to open "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" this Friday.
I've got a coupon for $2 off admission and $3 off domestic pitchers which I'd love to post, but I can't figure out how. It's in PDF format.
