It's amazing how many parking garages a city this size needs.

Maybe vertical parking will free up / dry up surface parking lots  & allow for better use of space long term, however.

Nice list of projects that still have a chance.  Many of them BIG difference makers in expanding the urban fabric.

Any news on the proposed Baptist Hospital 4 story tower?

Good question, I never noticed that.  My guess is that they figure the skyway will never be extended in that direction.

I was thinking the same.  I think the convention center station has always been the terminus of that leg of the line, even in early planning.

Just as JIA and MCO have a corridor through the parking garagesm the new Jacksonville Terminal project should do the same. One skyscraper on the West side of I-95 and we have to wreck the parking facility?
Come on y'all THINK!

NEVER - EVER - EVER - Box in rail of ANY kind. ditto for other fixed transit. Stub track (dead end) railroad terminals fell out of favor shortly after the 1919 station opened. We were an exception to the rule because so many trains were broken down here and they could use both through and "Head House Tracks". But for a city wide micro-metro - doesn't work, won't work, can't work. A sharp jog back to Bay ending in the air (just like the east end) makes worlds more sense.

According to the developer's website, Brooklyn Park is now anticipated to break ground Spring 09'

QuoteBrooklyn Park

Jacksonville, Florida
12.5 Acre Mixed Use Development
Residential, Retail, Office, Hotel
$250,000,000 project cost
Estimated Ground Breaking Spring 2009
www.brooklynparkjax.com

Miles is helping to reinvent the North Brooklyn district of Jacksonville by creating a modern-day, mixed-use village that reflects Riverside cool and easily connects to downtown's front door. Unlike anything else in Jacksonville's urban core, this Miles development redefines and reinvents a bygone neighborhood, while retaining its qualities of charm, connectivity and sense of community. Thoughtful design of this mixed-use neighborhood will factor in pedestrian friendly features with human-scale streetscapes that cohesively blend multiple residential types.

The current rendering on Hallmark's website
(http://www.hallmarkpartners.com/Website/building%20pics/200%20riverside/Camera%201.jpg)

A rendering from 2006

A rendering from 2007 of the residential tower component
(http://www.metrojacksonville.com/photos/thumbs/lrg-6834-200_riverside_final.jpg)

The project was supposed to include 120,000 square feet of office space and 250 condos.  I'm sure the condo component is on ice.

The most recent plans for 200 Riverside have scrapped the condo units and plan on including
a 200 room hotel.  I'll see if I can find some more photos.

We are still in for permitting.  Once we are out of permitting, we should be ready to start.  My guess is probably 60 to 90 days.

Yes, this project is located next to the Prime Osborn Convention Center and the proposed intermodal hub.  The development site is the vacant land bordering the Skyway between Jefferson Strett and the convention center.

We are so geographically gifted over The ATL/Miami the next 20 years look brighter for Jax than those two.  Atlanta has water problems they can't solve. Miami just had it's boom.   Charlotte seems to be the darling of business in the south right now but with the dredging of the Panama canal and our own port Jacksonville is poised to have economic advantages no one south of Philly has.

We've been geographically gifted since the beginning of time.  The question we'll face is if we can finally take advantage of our infrastructure and natural assets.

Brooklyn Park is gone forever.  The property was foreclosed on a few months ago.

The actual PARK with ampitheatre is being constructed now, yes.

Brooklyn Park though was the project next to the 200 Riverside/Hallmark/Marriot property(across from Haskell/Times Union).  That's dead and the property was foreclosed on.

200 Riverside is not dead.

Now that we are back in a building proposal boom. Or so it seems, I'd love to see more updates in this format from years ago. The urban construction updates are nice. But I liked having a status on the proposals even the ones that seemed impossible.
