Ok, I tried to be as comprehensive as possible with the options but I'm sure I may have missed some sections. If you want me to add a section of town, send me a PM or reply in the thread.
Reppin' San Pablo @ Atlantic. Woot Woot ::: raises the roof ::: (LoL)
Almost 1,000 members and only 10 people chiming in?
Come 'on folks, there is no harm in voting. This is totally anonymous. Moderators, nor Administrators can see your vote. ;)
I votededed.
You should just put major intersections as a part of town, that might get more people to vote. Example: I'm from the skreets of University & Phillips hwy son!
Yeah, I thought about that in hindsight. Too much work to change it no though :)
I'm just playin'. Most are familiar with intersections but all of the different areas of town usually do have a name. It's just no one knows what they are!
Old Ortega in the mofuggin' hizouse!
Word.
Deyz aint be no otha St. Auggie Doggie's reprezentin!?
There's no Miramar? I guess I should say San Marco?
I can add Miramar.
Edit: Miramar added!
Geez - Didn't know we had to be handicapped by Riverside. Even Bayard ranked, but no Avondale on its own.
I guess I should have broken the areas up based on the 4 quadrants of the county.
Does any sort of map exist that depicts these areas? In part or whole? I'm familiar with most, but not all...
Perhaps you could have listed OLD avondale (Talbot, Edgewood, Challen and Avondale) and left Riverside on its own.
those avondale punks think they're too good for riverside *shakes fist*
I used Google Maps to generate the list.
And of course I could have listed more hoods or even broken out Riverside/Avondale but, frankly, the list was already growing exceedingly long because I was trying to include everyone. I think it does enough to give an idea of the general area of residence of our members. I wanted something more specific than "westside" or "beaches" but not so specific as to indicate street addresses.
I could have easily added maybe 10 or 15 more hoods to the list for the old city, many of which no one has ever heard of other than it's relation to a street name or creek. I had to stop somewhere. ;D If anyone else has a specific neighborhood they would like added just fire me a PM and ask. No biggie.
Besides, Avondale should be honored to be included with the likes of Riverside.... ;)
Don't listen to those picky idiots...what's the point of showing what areas of town people live in if everyone has their own sub-neighborhood listed? Might as well listed it by street names! No wait...individual blocks of each street! YEAH!
Riverside is like gum on the soles of our shoes.
Looks like I'm the only Lakeshore guy.

Wow. So far it looks like Springfield is in the lead!

Poster speaking, yes. Still behind the curve on getting the city to recognize it properly.
Riverside - holla!
Originally from NYC, reside in Ponte Vedra Beach last 5 years. It's a kid thing...
QuoteRiverside is like gum on the soles of our shoes.
LOL. That's a good one.
Not surprised on the voting. This is a very Springfield centric forum based on whose posting. It's nice to see that a lot of people who live in the boonies (you know who you are) have a genuine interest in Metro Jax. It would be great to see that grow in the future.
Nice thread OP. Good idea. :)
Argyle reppin'. We're on the board for three already. Nice...

I once had a dream that I was in a convention for "Super Hero's", sitting at my table suddenly all the lights were on me and I was on stage, "This years hero CAPTAIN CANOE!" I woke myself up laughing (typical for my dreams)... FYI, CC has died and gone to canoe heaven! REALLY!
Jason, I'm joining you with a new St. Augustine address! Right now I hail from JTB and Hodges area, but it will soon be St. Johns, in World Golf Village. (Damn, maybe we'll finally meet!) Anyway, it's not really NW St. Johns as I'm more like West Central St. Johns and damn close to Green Cove Springs. So I voted NW St Johns as the closest... But the toys at WGV and the price of a forclosure in mint condition were too good to be true! We'll see if it closes according to Hoyle. Y'all come down now ya hear? The fish are biting in Six Mile Creek!

I'll wave at you twice a day on my daily to and fro commute passing!
Who's the other Mandarinian?
Yay for the first and only East Mandarinite - I'm guessing that's Mandarin east of San Jose. But I hail from SE GA originally, through old Arlington, the slums of San Marco and a few years in Miramar...it's all good.
Nah, east Mandarin is likely east of Old St. Augustine Rd.
Come on Normandy you know you want to join in the fun.
13 people from Springfield......??? Isn't that just about the entire neighborhood???
QuoteIsn't that just about the entire neighborhood???
You're joking, right. :-\
Yes, but I know a great many people who would believe my sarcastic statement to be true.
I don't live in Jax, but it's still my City, and being that I am away I've adopted the downtown core as my neighborhood, and when I move back, I probably will live downtown. When I lived in Jax I was always on the move and lived in Riverside, Avondale, Springfield, Ortega and Normandy.

One of the best things about being on MetroJacksonville is that it doesn't really matter where we live -- we can all get together for a cup of coffee or something without ever leaving our homes. I understand the group gets together for dinner sometimes -- If I can, I'll try to come. Thanks for letting me be a part of your group.

I know there are a few Panama Parkers around here.
How about the Northside?
Speaking up for Dinsmore! I'm a 7th generation native - grew up on the southside, went to school on the westside, went to college at UNF, got married and moved to the northside, and work downtown - I think I've got all the bases covered!
The name says it all!
Two just moved from Argyle (the closest we had) to Oakleaf.
Riverside, District 9, ZIP 32204, Ernest (between Stockton and Margaret)...righchere.
I reside in Springfield next to three layers. :>

But what if you're from Mandarin? Won't you get banned?
Yes, Mandarin residents are banned automatically.
Wait................how'd you get in?
To be honest, I’m a spy. We of Mandarin are about to implement the reverse sprawl program. We’ve had our eye on the urban core for awhile. That’s right, we’re coming back. Prepare yourself for more medians, tanning salons and stucco houses than you can possibly handle! HAHAHA
(revs bulldozer)
Cedar Hills/ Confederate Point.
riverside via downtown core since Oct 08
By weekday: Southbank
By weekday evening & weekend: the beaches
The part of town I live in has so many names, it's difficult to say what our side of town is called. I live near Edward waters college, but, we have been called New Town, New Ground, Durkeevile/Myrtle Avenue, Midwest, and West. So, I guess it's according to what project the administration is working on. Then, I am quite sure there will be a name given to my community or side of town to match their needs. :(
Couldnt we just put zip code?
Off of Bay Meadows and not listed so put into "Other" category! Bostech ......zip codes make sense!
Historic Springfield
World Golf Village...
OCKLAWAHA
Yes, I'm all for the zip code survey! Can we do one?
32204 = Old Riverside
Does anyone know where I can get a map of all of the neighborhoods? I know I've seen one on here somewhere. Thanks!
Nevermind, found it using walkscore.com

or farther to the Avenues. But not near Baymeadows. But then again many say Mandarin when they should say Beauclere.

Not on a bet. This tounge and cheek post assumes we were once THERE in the urban core.
It was more a reference to white flight in general. I was proclaiming a reverse WF.
In an apartment at the Town Center. Walkable, new. Everything I need a few steps away!

SPR and R/A are outnumbering all other hoods.
I would have sworn there were more Arlington, Murray Hill, and San Marcoans posting here than the poll is indicating.

But we've got it better than "true" Avondale because we can walk to Publix and then to Montys. People on Edgewood have to drive to Pubes and drive home and then walk for their dollar beers.
World Golf Village... I was aiming for San Marco, but the resident Colombians overruled me. LOL.

This particular forum supports a thought I've had about Jacksonville for awhile. It's really not one decent sized city, but a mess of small cities that grew and eventually stuck together. I suppose the same can be said by a lot of cities, but somehow, as always, Jacksonville is different. Our biggest asset, the river, also divides us, as do attitudes and interests, and IMHO, the divide is greater here than in a lot of comparably sized cities.
Began life in Jacksonville living at the Marybuilt on Stockton St across from John Gorrie. Then moved down Stockton to Gilmore St, then to the Southside (Sans Souci). After high school (Englewood), left town for about 35 years but have been back (in Riverside) for about 3 years and lovin' it.
Grew up mostly in the Springfield area in the 70's and then moved to the riverside/westside area in the 80's and stayed there until I moved out of state in 2001. I also spent a short time in the Northside (by Gateway mall) in the 1970's and the Southside area (by Regency Mall) in the 80's.
I grew up in Sin City (the bad part of Arlington) and then moved on to Regency, then the south side. After that, I spent some time out at Jax Beach, BACK to Regency then Baymeadows, Riverside, and now settled permanently in Ortega and living happily on a street named after a Native American tribe! I finally done it, Aunt Esther! What a wild ride!
Is this where are you from or where you are now?
I voted based on the former.
Other IN THE HOUSE!!
Born in St Vincent's Hospital and lived in Oceanway for the better part of 50 years. Spent a couple years around Southside Estates, and have now lived in Springfield for a little over 2 years.
