Title: Elephant & Castle Pub in downtown?
Post by: Julian on October 02, 2008, 01:24:35 PM
Hey guys, i saw a job listing on craigslist for a new restaurant called Elephant & Castle Pub in downtown. Has anyone heard about this? it appears to be a chain restaurant, any ideas on where downtown this would be going into?

My guess would be in the Landing. I have gone to their official website and there is no mention, yet, of a Jacksonville location. Honestly the ONLY thing I could find out about it was the Craigs Listing. Please someone, more info......

Hopefully, it will be on Bay St.  It would be a nice addition to the strip.  I can already tell by the website alone that I'm gonna like this place.

Looks like opening a pub is the latest and greatest band-wagon...
Dont get me wrong, I LOVE a pub. Frequent Kings Head Pub out here in St. Aug and we have a new one at Palencia called Donovans that was OK.

Interesting. There aren't too many of these across the country, the ones that exist seem to be only in large cities. I think a really cool location would be the old marble bank building on the corner of Laura St and Forsyth St. If you look at their website, it shows one that looks to be in an old bank building!

Interesting.  If the craigslist listing turns out the be valid, this would be their first location south of DC.

I just got off the horn with my Jacksonville Landing contact and can pretty much confirm that it will NOT be in the Landing. So maybe hopes of Bay Street are valid. Calling a few more peeps with distributors now to see if they know anything.

That would be an awesome place for a pub...  or even the building with the picture of the jaguar painted on the windows, I forget what the name of that building is on the corner of Ocean/Bay....

I ate at this place in manhattan a few years ago, not long before it closed there. I thought the food was incredible.

Unless it's a different establishment altogether, but I'm pretty sure it's not.

i dont know. It could've been a different place but I am positive the restaurant was called "elephant and castle." It was upscale-ish (not by NYC standards though), and extremely tiny. That may have been the reason for closing...it had no room to expand at all. But the dinner food was terrific. Pricey but worth it imo.

okay, official word from Elephant & Castle Pub corporate - Its SPAM

QuoteHello!

Many thanks for your email.

Unfortunately we do not have a new store opening in Jacksonville.  Elephant and Castle have been experiencing problems with advertisers spamming our brand on Craig’s List, and therefore the advertisement you may have seen is false.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Best wishes,

Doris
